1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

I've been lurking for years and finally registered. I have done multiple searches to no avail and cannot find an answer to this dilemma. I scored an original no rust truck on E pay and it is original paint and there are no holes in the fenders ???? Could it have been a "fleet" order truck or ??? Here is the link to the auction http://www.ebay.com/itm/321441055223...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

My guess is the truck has been re painted at some point. The tailgate letters would be white if it was original paint. Great truck though! Good buy!

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

I had been searching for an original truck with hubcaps and certainly did not want a rusty project. I'm going to blast and powder coat the wheels and bumpers, restore the interior, steam clean it top to bottom, remove the camper and drive it after fixing the A/C. Thought it was a steal at $5500.

Isn't there 2 holes under the drivers front fender marker light ? I don't see any holes on the passenger side though.

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

what's the trim level on the SPID? Regardless, it should say Custom, CustomDeluxe, Cheyenne, or Cheyenne Super on the fender. What is on the inside of the fender in the location where the holes should be? If bondo or weld slag, well, there's your answer, hole-fill and repaint. If NOTHING there on the backside, then I'd suspect replacement with aftermarket fenders - but it's kinda odd that the side-marker ones already gone pointed out are there, but not the trim level emblem holes. But if that is not the case - am a little stumped. And clues as to the repaint now that you have the truck? (if you have it by now) K10 shortie, nice buy. Would love to see the SPID to see what you really have on your hands.

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

As was pointed out the minimum on a 72 K10 would be the trim and series call out fender emblem, in this case it appears to have been a Custom/10 Deluxe. This is based on the chrome window, vent and door panel trim.
If the truck also has a factory optional 350 then it would have the 8 350 emblems up front under the markers. It currently has holes on the left but not on the right supporting this option.
In any event I'd suspect a repaint or replacement of the front fenders.

The SPID would be nice to see, showing how it was built and maybe even that manual throttle is factory too!

I'll post a pic of the spid when i get a chance. Guy says he purchased. The truck in 1980 and he has never painted the truck but have to assume it was painted prior to then. The camper shell has never been off since he bought it either

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

We can only guess on a truck this old that none of us have looked over in person. The first guess would be my guess, too. It's been painted. The seller never stated the paint is original in listing and all these trucks came with fender badges, except '67 GMC Deluxe (base)

Re: 1972 K-10 original paint no fender emblems ???

Like it!
Custom Deluxe K10 without moldings or chromed bumpers!
This would have had the "Custom/10" fender emblem with the seperate "Deluxe" emblem below it. Up front under the marker were "8 350" engine emblems.
From the factory this had very little chrome. Basically the window, vent trims and door handles too.
The bumpers were painted (front white rear silver) along with white wheels, hubcaps and mirrors.
Is it even legal to export a truck like this to a rust zone? :-)

No that would be a solid medium blue or "Hawaiian Blue" if you like flashy sales names. With the white bumper and wheels/caps it shows very nicely. Just for grins here is a chart from a series I'm working up showing the offered variations of the 510 Medium Blue in 71-72.
