1970 1 ton needs some help
Brand new on here, so nice to meet you all. I have a 1970 1 ton, that is in need of rear drums. Apparently they're fairly hard to find. Any chance you guys might know where I'd find some, or my uncle said that there's a chance I could swap in newer ones? I'm really not knowledgable at all in regards to vehicles, but I love this truck, and I want to keep it on the road... Thank you in advance for any info you may have.

Welcome to the board! Might help to know which differential you have. With drums hard to find, chances are it's an Eaton. Check this thread from a few years back, there may be some helpful info. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=443837

Found 7 of them on RockAuto. Bendix, 3 Centrics, AC Delco, Wagner, and Raybestos.
Those are all for the 1970 C30. So with 7 choices from one website alone they can't be that hard to find. It looks like there are multiple sizes, probably varies by axle. So you'd need to know the diameter of yours: 11 5/32, 12.55", 13" Knowing the diameter (or the axle type) should get you the one you need. I presume everything is 8-bolt.

I've had so many people answer questions for me on this board when I needed help that I enjoy doing a little digging for folks. Just wish the board had a "This post was helpful" feature like Amazon, it'd make searching easier. And we'd be able to build cool rep.

Do you have a single or dual rear wheel truck? Those listed above must be single wheel drums on RockAuto. I'm almost positive the DRW drums for the HO72 are obsolete. Most are changing out the rear end to a newer model 14 bolt. I believe you have to relocate the rear end brackets though for it it bolt in.

You can swap 14-bolt brakes to the HO52/72,backing plate out

Of the seven 70 brake drums listed on Rock Auto, six of the listings were for "front" drums and one was for the R05 DRW rear drums. Stock SRW rear drums are very hard to find for 67-72 C30s.

But he needs DRW for a dually, correct? So it's still up there, I think.
On eBay I can find the 13" rears but never having had a dually I have no idea what size they need.

In general the C30s SRW and DRW had 13" rear drums unless they were a chassic cab with the H0110 10 lug axle (they are 15").
Yes the OP needed DRW drums and the Centrics RA has should do the trick.

You might try Blackbird custom trucks. They have a kit to convert ho52 and ho72's to rear disc. I did it on my c30 longhorn that had an ho72 in it. It is a single axle, but you could call and find out if it works on dually too. It was an easy conversion that ended up saving $. Good luck!

I emailed Blackbird a while back and they told me that did not have anything for the dually's. Not sure if anything has changed or not but at that time they had stuff for SRW only.

Think we found one drum at least. Gonna measure it up and make sure, but thanks again. I also need the rear hanger/mount for the leaf spring. Apparently that's another part of this truck that's really hard to find. And good leads on that? Someone told me that it's easier to make em than to find em...

Yes,my option is. I never did it but got to thinking about it because people make 14-bolt disc kits work on HO52s and people use 14-bolt lockers in HO52s by using 14-bolts axle shafts. I suggested it to a fella in a bind needing to get his '72 C/30 rollback registered pronto to qualify for a contract that was at the deadline for bids. I suggested a full 14-bolt swap but he feel he had time for the fab work,so he went with my hunch. The next day he had the contract
You can find a spring hanger on the parts board.
