Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
A 700R4 will not be happy behind a big block. It's not the horsepower but the torque.
It'll work OK for a while then break. I had a '67 SWB with a 396 - 700R4 combination. Two years later I pull it to freshen it up and install the drivetrain in a '63 SWB. I could hardly believe how beat the transmission was. A 400 or 4L803 is a better choice behind a BB

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
Check out Bowtie Overdrives. They have a 700R4 that will hold up with your motor. I have a few friends running running them with no problems. I have talked to BTO in person about my truck (400TQ @ RW) and will be going with them when my THM350 gives up. They have a very, very low return rate. I'm sure there are others building stout 700s but have not checked them out.

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
Built mine with BM internals Long Long time ago. Flawless behind my 406. Not 500 hp though.
I might do a 4l80 if I had the coin and know how for the programming. But for the money this was my best choice and it was a good one.

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
I have a 700r4 behind my 525hp 630ft big block and its great. just make sure you get one built to stand up behind your engine. Phoenix Trans is where mine came from, and they built it to stand up to my HP and torque.

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
I have a 200-4R behind a 600 rear wheel horsepower turbo V6. It's been holding fine for the last 5 years. I like those better than the 700, 4L60 or the 4L80's. THey arent as heavy and they have a better gear spread with a *deeper* overdrive for cruising. A lot of people go *overkill* on super heavy duty *bigger is better* theory. Not true these days.

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
I would go with a built 200R4 before the 700R4, but in my case with neither of those laying around my yard and there is [3] 4L80E's sitting out back If either of the two big block trucks I'm building they might get a 4l80E, but then there is the expense of the stand alone shifter computer and that makes up a lot of the build cost to a good built 700. I have had good luck in the past with 700's behind a 468 in a extra cab Silverado that ended up in a new home being used to pull a horse trailer and they never had a trans related problem. Jim

Re: 700R4 Trans. ??????
Thanks guys. Have already talked to bowtie. There's a lot to do with all that pressure gaug stuff to activate the warranty. Been told that linkage thing they sell for carbs is not really nessary if you use a double adjustable cable. Have a friend that has a phonixe Trans and loves it bout have heard they have lots of returns. Just not sure......
