There is a black Sierra Grande in Alaska I was tempted to buy when I was searching. Sadly it's owned by a guy who inherited it from a friend who died and so he wasn't eager to negotiate on the price. I think he wanted $15K for it. I'll see if I can dig up any info if you're interested.

Pretty sure this is a '72 because it looks like the mirror is on the windshield. But I've also heard only 71s got the Disc Brake sticker, so I'm not 100% certain.

It all depends on your budget ? There are many unmolested clean trucks out there but none are cheap or easy to find ,What's your budget ? There is no sense in dragging sellers to you if your looking for a project ? or a finished /garage kept truck ?

Original condition K10 are a hard find , be patient and keep shaking the bushes and you will get lucky, just a matter of time

Don't they charge for advertising? I know nothing about the economics of forums, other than the CPM/CPC rate is terrible usually. I sent a message inquiring about buying the board once and never got a response, so I presume they're not terribly mercenary about it.

DavePL - I'd def like to talk to the owner of the Alaska K10 if you can find his info...it's def at the top of my budget but it looks fully done.

My budget is in the neighborhood or $10-$13k max. I don't need a nut-and-bolt perfect truck...I just want solid, orig, complete and honest...no hack jobs. I plan to keep it forever so freshening it up over years is the plan.

Here's what he said. I was $10K low in my memory.

"The truck was a total restoration in brand new shape, I would not be afraid to make a trip anywhere with it. First gear is deep. We purchased the truck about 5 years ago it was about 85 % done when we purchased it the previous owner died and his wife said he had about $18,000 dollars in parts into the truck then. We finished the truck over the last 5 years. We are asking $25,000 The VIN # TKE142Z512864 if you want to do a check on the truck."

Yikes...$25k is out of this world...I've seen one K10 run through Barrett-Jackson that fetched $57,500 but it was 100% orig metal, low-mile, nut-and bolt resto trailer queen you'd never be able to drive...not my kind of truck...nor my kind of budget...

Only people who (a) have never built a nice truck or (b) don't really keep accurate records would say that.

I have $24,714.01 in mine not counting the trans, rear end, chrome, or paint. And that's all my labor. And I'm not done yet!

I track every item (other than paint, sandpaper, and other consumables) in Excel.

When I am done I'll post the list to my build thread. But come on, seat foam is $600. Recore or replace your rad, $300. Steering wheel is $250. AC Compressor is $250. The T62 battery is $300. Power steering pump is $240. Prop valve for the brakes is $200. New hard lines are $230. My spreadsheet has 218 entries just like that.

Now, if you're going to build a $25,000 truck with old seat foam and a sketchy radiator and a cracked steering wheel and a four-year old Autozone battery and a faded dash and rusty lines and "the AC just needs a recharge", sure. But that's not a "build".

Mine needed paint only. I did get the aux fuel tank doors removed and the longhorn seams welded up but all the quotes I got were just paint.

The average local quote was $18K for shops that deal with old cars (ie: not collisions shops run by Bob's uncle where it sits in the corner until they have nothing else to work on - ie: paint jail).

I wound up sending the cab and bed to Musclecar Restorations in Wisconsin, as I'd used them before. The quote was $20K and by the time I finished up with the aforementioned extras and a couple of others, it was $25K.

But yes, you can probably get a truck painted at Maaco for $1200 or something. And for some trucks it'd be a really wise investment.

Right, what I meant. A professional paint job is 3/4 the cost of restoring, and it is not cheap.

Well..... Sure if your a retail buyer and have to pay anyone for anything done to the truck or don't own the equipment yourself ,or don't have a business to pay wholesale thru , Have never seen a tubing bender, don't own a commercial sewing machine to build your own interior,have never opened an engine or trans or have skills to barter for large items like powder coating the frame and suspension or you've never seen the business end of a da or board file . This comment is not directed to you personally just it's been said before it is way cheaper to buy a very nice /show truck already done by someone else rather than build one from scratch and how many trucks do you see sell for more than $25,000.00 ? No disrespect to anyone but building these trucks is a hobby and many have spent more than $25,000.00 to what end ? it's easy to spend it but one day the time will come to sell and there's just not that many people walking around with an extra 25k cash to spend on a toy ....My suggestion is to open a wholesale business and get a license and treat your build as such taking the discounts and savings since you will eventually pay taxes when sold .

I'm not arguing the trucks are worth more than 25K, I'm saying you can't build a nice one for $25K.

I do take offense at your implication that its about doing your own work. You may have only been skimming my post, but I was talking about parts. I did all of my own work, thanks, except paint. I didn't buy preformed lines, I bent my own. I rebuild my own engines (except machine work), press my own bushings, weld my own metal, sand & varnish my own wood, polish my own metal, and I could list everything else but its easier to say:

"I have R&R'd every non-rivted fastener and replaced or refurbished every part of this truck, both external and internal. That includes the guts of the engine, trans, rear end, HVAC, and interior."

And I still spent $25,000 on parts. I don't care what kind of sewing machine you have, you cannot heat-press the correct scroll work into the vinyl, can you?

And I do have skills, thanks. I built a website for the carb shop instead of paying them. I wrote a database script for billing instead of paying to have my rad boiled out. You had it wrong on all counts, so I'm not sure why you decided to 'lol' at me.

Holy cow, that baby has a "420 big block police enforcer motor". Wish I had one of those in my Corvette, it's just a punk aluminum 427. Not even an enforcer.

This one looks nice on the outside, but it's pretty molested for 11K unless these are getting really hard to find (and given we've found several decent ones in a couple of days, they can't be that bad).

Then again it took me a couple of years to find a grandpa-driven uncut Sierra Grande bigblock/bucket truck and I had to 'settle' for a Longhorn, so finding the one that's right for you can be harder, I guess. And I had it my sig here for a year while learning about trucks and that yielded nothing.

Oh, My! Look at the bed floor, door jambs, inside rocker panel, seats, dye sprayed interior..etc. It's basically a semi-shined up turd on the outside for an extremely high price. The paint was definitely a $500 paint job AND they painted over bubbling rust too! That truck needs some TLC.
