well that might limit your options. I am running the same gas tank with a 4 inch drop on my short bed and it looks like it will still be able to run the exhaust tips at a 45 degree angle to the back of my tires but I will have to put my mufflers in the same place you have yours now

Here are some pictures of my set up. Mine is a 67 stepper as well. I didn't have room for a cross pipe but it still sounds great. Magnaflow 40's have a good sound to me. I don't have a gas tank conversion...yet! Hope it helps!
