restoration specs

Has anybody documented or is there a book (highly doubt the book) a 69-72 k5 blazer restoration regarding original finishes , fasteners etc??? I like originality and when I restore ky 72 I would like it to be as original. Thanks for any information

There is the factory assembly manual available, although it doesn't list every detail.

One finish detail to consider is the paint atop the dash between the windshield and dash pad: this was painted to match the pad and has a flat finish from GM to reduce glare. Door strikers were parkerized (phosphate coated) not painted and door latches were natural finish not painted. Parkerize the hood hinges - the resultant finish and function are excellent. I'd also parkerize the body bolts and engine brackets so they can be torqued on without the finish (i.e., paint) flaking off. Thanks Pete, thats the info I was looking for. I suppose I should buy an assembly manual as well. Do you have a picture of your engine bay? In particular Im looking for passenger side valve cover view....thanks, Brian

Another thing, werent you looking for a rollbar, I saw a 69-72 k5 being parted out in northwest Montana on Craigslist and he had a rollbar.

The factory assembly manual is an excellent investment. Happy to provide any pics - LMK if you can't find what you need on my K20 build thread linked in my signature below and I'll post more. My Blazer has CA emissions equip that obscures the pass side of the engine but the K20 lacks this equip and I just grabbed a near survivor 72 K1500 GMC non-A/C LWB that's essentially OEM under the hood down to the battery cables, which is another poss reference.

I did look at your k20....nice by the way! On the blazers wasnt the oil fill cap on the drivers side rear valve cover or was there another on the pass front valve cover. All my engines are different, looking for the correct location.

Thanks! Do you have A/C? If so, you should have the oil fill tube that plugs into the driver side valve cover in the rear.

No ac, no power brakes either. What goes in the drivers side rear hole then?
