He guys may just head out to the wrecker this weekend and was wondering about a few things basically looking for the quick and easy answers I'm not really a mechanic so I'm kind of stumbling through this part of my build..

283 w/ 305 heads
I'll be looking for a..
-crank pully, need to know if diameter is important will any sbc donor work?

-gas tank options just need to know what vehicles have been used successfully and what needs to be done.

-the vent hose for the heater, I assume that anything that is the same diameter will do given the right length?

-voltage regulator, are these all the same? How far back in years do I have to look for said part? And where is it typically located?

-I'll be looking for a standard horn, 15" rim that accepts dog dishes and beauty rings

-power steering components I would need the pump which I believe I have one not too sure if pump needs to match the gear box? If so what gear boxes fit the 1968?

You need to use upper and lower pulley from a sbc with the same water pump you're going to use. Short or long. Horn is a basic item. I've been to about every yard in winnipeg your not going to find a voltage reg anyplace. Go to a internal regulator alt. As for the gas tank same deal,too old for our yards unless your heading to way outta town yards. Other steering pumps will work from sbc engines but hoses are diffrent in most cases.

If you stay with the External Voltage Regulator, best get a new one [preferably made in North America]. '67 thru '72 if you can find an old one that's not fried. Look for AC/Delco embossed on top cover. The old ones were adjustable. New ones are disposable. Regulators are found on the Driverside Radiator wall below and inboard of the headlamp socket.
Same with the heater hose. I wouldn't trust old rubber. Any auto parts store has fresh rubber hoses.

junkyarding is a lot of fun but very few of them around Houston have anything but late model parts.

I've noticed state side tends to have more of a part selection I'd have to we have two decent yards if I had the set up in my shop that I wanted I would just build my own aluminum gas tank.

I know a guy who has a couple tanks. Met him today. I can give you his number if you need. Pm me if you want it.

Are you after a stock "in cab" tank... Or relocating it under the bed? I used a 25 gal tank from a '73 blazer... And a sending unit from a '84 K5 blazer (0-95 ohm) works perfect with factory guage and fits inside the tanks without any mods. Bought both new from NAPA. I have a factory tank in real nice shape I can get to you next time I'm in the city.

3/8" fuel line approx $30

Spent hours on rock auto comparing numbers to find a gauge with proper resistance that would fit the tank... Without cutting it up. They work. Tested with factory gauge. The sending unit has 4 tubes on it. Allowing for a return line with elec fuel pump/ regulator return.

That's awesome will this set up work with a mechanical fuel pump? Seems cheaper then any kit aswell. I'll take a look on your thread assuming you show the install?

Also where did you end up running the filler neck can't seem to find anything in you build about it, seems like it's side fill?

69 camero tank will work, you need a license plat bracket for bumper fill.

Haven't made it that far yet. Lol. Either bedside pocket or bed floor.
