Fuel pump questions for 235

I installed a rear mount frame tank and a basic inline fuel pump from Napa. The issue im having is with the pump mounted half way between the tank and carbs it chatters like crazy causing a vibration all the time when its installed. When I disconnect it and let it hang in a downward bow with the line it goes nice a quiet and pumps quietly. I have tried to tilt it and lay it flat but when I always go to bolt it back up level it seems to cause that loud chatter. I can move it closer to the tank I guess but will that help the issue with what sounds like fuel starving? The line from the tank has to run in the upward direction for about 6 inches to get up to the frame rail to stay clear of the rear axle. Can this be my issue that the pump is not 100% gravity fed?

Should I just go back to a mechanical pump or get a better pump like the Holley Red? If I go back to mechanical what new style one do you recommend for the 235 im running?

I'd just get a regular fuel pump

Re: Fuel pump questions for 235

Should not be an issue, once the siphon is set there should be fuel in the line and pump all the time unless air is getting into the line somewhere, and that would be a pretty obvious leak under pressure. Stock pump will work fine with rear mounted tank once the line is filled and siphon effect take over. Or you can put a light dip in the lines to drop the pump if that fixes it. Are you sure it is not just vibration from being solid mounted? I had one once that I mounted directly to the frame and it drove me crazy until I isolated it with some rubber.

Re: Fuel pump questions for 235

I have a rear mounted tank on a long bed, with a standard mechanical pump from NAPA. Works fine, just took a little initial cranking to get the fuel to the pump.

took the time and pulled out the electric pump and tossed it in the trash. The manual is working just fine. I cant actually remember why i went to electric its been so long working on the truck. I do like the idea now that the pump is not always running when the key is on.

Re: Fuel pump questions for 235

Sounds like the solution, new wiring harnesses have the pump power off of the same circuit that supplies ignition power, will only run when engine is running. I found out when I used the circuit for another purpose and could not figure out why the power was not working with just the key on.

Save the pump you might want to start something, pump something out, etc.
