Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
A couple more pics of the work I did this weekend. Lightened the front fenders . Next weekend the backside of the core support. Also included is a new vette with the rollcage and some of the lightened sheetmetal. Takes time but the result is a cool design element that is somewhat functional.

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
A few updates . The 3rd member is assembled . It was done by John Harrison at Specialty Metal Craft. Im starting the mock up on the core support and inner fender. The inner fender will be raised up to clear the tire. It still has to be cut for the headers to exit and the shocks to come through and mount. i desided to start fitting the core support before lightening the backside . Seems there is an alignement issue with my frame mount and the core support, the holes on the supports are about an inch narrower than the frame mounts.

Nice. Tell us more about the core support. It does not look stock. Pics?

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
Its an AutoRad core support. Its aluminum . The head light buckets are aluminum as well. As it sits its a little over 20lbs lighter than stock. The radiator was built by AutoRad as well. Its aluminum but a large capacity radiator. It looses some weight over a clutch fan, shroud and brass 2 core. This is equivelant to a 4 core with 2 big fans. That is why we are thinking rear mount the radiator. I did not want a tube that holds the headlights for a core support, which would be lighter. This resembles a core support still.

Does it have a PB bolt on body drop? Looks like it in the pics. If so the core support needs notched.

Yeh its Nates body drop . The core support mount holes are 32 1/2 ". The frame mounts are 33 3/8. Talkes to Dave at Porterbuilt today. The support is not hitting the frame. I cant get 2 bolts in .

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
Anyone know what a stock core support measures center to center on the mounts?? I fit the floor to the frame mounts on a jig. Had the cab on a jig to take the old floor out and put the new one in. When installed on the frame the back mounts lined up and the front ones had to be moved 1/2'' to line up. LOL Everything has been like that. I have pictures with my shocks mounted at Nates shop. Same spring and shock untouched wont fit with my stuff??? Shock is too long for the mounts. I bought a used bed , the holes to mount the bed dont line up, the bed box checks sguare within an 1/8'' . Had a steel plate floor someone made and the holes are off. Crazy how every time you try to do something its that far off ??

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
Im back . Been away for a little while but parts are here and some work gettin done. The core suport is ALMOST all the way in . The frame mounts will have to be re done. The new drivers door is on but dont have a pic yet. The cowl panel was straightened and the Scots hot rods filler is here. The new upper control arms are installed and look like they will work fine. in The bumper is mocked up and will begin to be fit soon. Scoop will be here tommorow and hopefully hood in the next week or so. Excuse the tubing in the pic of the front bumper , I had to shoot it from under another car. I still have some sheetmetal work to do on the pass fender and door but it will look like a truck again soon.

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
I am not sure where things went wrong. I fit the floor to the frame on a chassis jig. It lined up but was tight so I buzzed the holes with a die grinder . All the bolts went in. Made a cab fixture to locate every panel and mount. Replaced the floor, corners, rockers, back of cab,and firewall upper cowl. Put the cab on the frame and the 2 front holes are 1/2 in from mounts. Had to move the front cab mounts 1/2" in towards the frame. Every part I put on lines up with the hole. gaps are good . Now the core suport doesnt line up with the new frame mounts. They need to be cut and moved also. Its all after market stuff but no body knows why nothing lines up. I think the core support matches stock holes lol.

[QUOTE=69CST-V;6918031]Not to steal from your thread, but Trucks were meant to go fast. Pic of my friends '55.[/QUOTE. Your never gonna bother me with a fast truck. He is loading the tires pretty good in that pic. Nice truck I hope to have,a rolling chassis before to long. I was involved in NHRA s Pro Stock truck class so that is some of the inspiration on this truck.

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
Ok back after some waiting. Hood is here and the gaps are pretty nice . LOl Every panel has been replaced there are no shims any where. The gaps on the doors ,fenders , are pretty nice at this point . Looks like I just have to make a 3" bushing and relocate the mounting holes on the frame mount for the core support. I will put a grill in and a hood latch to locate everything else. I started the reshaping of the fenders and and step on the bed. I made patterns out of cardboard and tape to get a shape that I want. Now the sheet metal guy can see exactly what I want . Its a small change but noticeable and has a more modern look. The chop on the roof might take place before too long as well . Lets hope it go's as planned. Again not much of a change but will be noticeable. Flush mount glass and the windsheild layed back a smidge. No drip rails and a little angle to the roof. The scoop came in and is what I expected. It is made for cars with curved hoods and is 6 foot long. It will be smaller and less bulky looking once it is fitted. I did not want a square looking cowl scoop, I wanted something narrow at the front . So this is it ,and will be fine once its fit. The bumper has to be fit still and I have to make some brackets. The plan is to narrow the bumper and mount it a little tighter to the truck, I think I may peak it a liitle in the center to make it a little more modern looking as well. Right now theres a few cars being finished up at the shop so hopefully we can see some changes being made to the shape of this thing soon.

Re: The Mother Trucker.. FX Race Cars, Porterbuilt, Dyess Designs 68 coil over build
And a few pics of the scoop. LOL its not a bath tub someone left on my hood. With this style of scoop it is designed for more engine combinations like turbos mounted high, or big inch nitrous combinations. It easier to make it smaller than to add material to make it bigger. I also have the cowl filler panel in from Scot's hot rods that will be fit soon. The idea is to get something with a real clean look that is functional. Hopefully it turns out like I have it in my head..

Nice, the scoop will be a nice change from the normal cowl scoops...
