No fire to plugs less than year old

The engine died on me yesterday. It happened while I was accelerating with no sputter or warning, I pulled over, put it in park, cranked it up and started back down the road. It happened three times, the third being the last as it will no longer start.

The fuel filter was filled way lower than usual, so I changed it thinking it was clogged, left it open on the outlet side and cranked the engine. Fuel filter and pump work fine, gas shot out of it.

I pulled the #1 plug and had the wife crank while I held it close to a ground, no fire. I tried in three different spots, including the frame, so it should have sparked.

350 crate engine I installed in November, Jegs brand HEI distributor, plugs and wires are 4 months old and look fine, all connections are tight, truck was running fine until this.

Not sure where to start. I have a Skip White HEI in the shed, should I just yank the Jegs out and try the other?

Probably the module. Most DIY auto houses can test them. I have a spare HEI distributor I use just for times like this.

No spark from a HEI and I would suspect the module as well.

Have encountered a few that have gone out in the past, so I now carry a spare module in my truck.

If you do replace it be sure to add the insulating silicone grease between it and the mounting pad or it will have a shortened life due to heat transfer.

modules burn up especially when they dont have good supply wires and grounds too

Also make sure to use the dielectric grease under it.

It was the module. I (expletive deleted) love this site!!!!!

The supply wire is a solid heavy gauge wire directly to the fuse box and the engine is grounded well. Though, I will be checking all my connections etc to make sure everything is as good as I think it is. It may have just been a dud, but I'd rather check now than have to replace another module later.

I slathered the back of that sucker with the grease.

run an ohms check from the distributor power to the fuse box with the fuse pulled, make sure it is no more than 0.2 ohms. any more resistance than that means heat, heat means trouble. Also do an ohms check from the distributor ground to the battery ground, no more than .5 ohms.

I went through two modules within a month on a rebuilt HEI I had installed. After a careful inspection I noticed when I bent the two wires to the cap a tiny crack opened up with that pretty green copper patina. I took that wire off a junk truck I had sitting there and put it on with the new module. It ran great for years
