Blazer soft top

So I met this guy online that lives in Dallas Georgia. He says that he is looking for a guinea pig someone with a blazer that's close by that can bring their truck there he wants to build a soft top for it and make a Paterenn to sell them online he's wanting to do a safari style top. He makes a super cool looking top for the 85 Toyota 4Runner and they look super cool I really think this guy can make a heck of a top for our Blazers someone needs to give this guy a call and bring their truck there. I would be the guinea pig but I'm about nine hours away a little to far of a drive for me. Surely there someone close by PM me and I will hook ya up with this guy. You know we all miss that top with the zip out windows that was the best time ever made way better than soft toppers has !

Re: Blazer soft top

I'm about 1.5 hrs from Dallas, Ga. Mine is in no shape to drive right now and will be that way for some time. There are lots of blazers around in this area. Surely some one else will see this and hook the guy up. I would love to see the end product. If all else fails, send me his number and he can come to me for measurements.

Re: Blazer soft top

My Jimmy is not on the road, long way to go, but if you are interested I have the hard top you could use as a template. It is a double wall top and I intend to put a rag top on my truck . If you get the top figured out I would be interested in one.

Re: Blazer soft top

Would be nice to have a second option for quality soft tops in the market (golden rule in sourcing suppliers), especially a full top with zippered windows ala Safari style. Dallas GA is about 20 minutes NW of Atlanta.

Alan's Classics should know at least a few fellas with 69-72 Blazers in that area; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/group.php?groupid=63

Also looks like there are a few members that have/had Blazers around there;
"blueridge"
"sdaily"
"NuBomb"
"IronCanine"
"flashed"

Re: Blazer soft top

I contacted him last week. He said it would be winter before he would be able to start and he would contact me when he was ready. He was concerned that mine wouldn't fit in his garage with a 4" lift though.

Re: Blazer soft top

Maybe we should start our wishlist now ;

1) Bed, gate and header rails, not snaps.
2) Full length (front to back) side windows & large back window that zip out.
3) UV protected high grade window plastic.
4) Two optional tint levels - light & dark.
3) Metal zippers, not nylon
4) Logos optional (no cost delete).
5) 4 colors (minimum); white, black, tan, green.
6) Extruded aluminum top supports that fold down flush or below bed line (yeah asking alot I know)
7) Extruded, hinged (folding) aluminum door frames.
8) Square back, not slanted.

Re: Blazer soft top

I agree with all of the wish list. Be nice not to have drill holes anywhere. If its going to be done then do it right.

3rd to agree and would like to add that the closer to the original dealer-installed top, the better. Wouldn't white or tan canvas with no snap hole drilling be wonderful?

Re: Blazer soft top

I couldn't drill holes either but I went with a softopper. I do have to say I like it. I made this bracket setup fairly easily without a welder. My welder is currently at my friends. Might be an idea for him to go off. I literally have about 30 bucks into it.

Re: Blazer soft top

When I bought my Jimmy it came with a hard top as well as a soft top. The soft top has a railing all the way around that top snaps to. The rails mount where the hard top holes are and a track along the tailgate. It also has a mounting point across the top of the windshield and the top hooks to it kinda like a bikini top on a Jeep. i'll look for the mfg and if there no longer in business maybe they could use some of design.

Re: Blazer soft top

That would be cool. I kind of just threw together some stuff to hook mine to on the windshield.

I have an original Whitco top that was the dealer-option in '72. I can ship it to him if he needs a template to work from. I have the bows for the rear and a couple of the pieces for the front support, but I don't have the piece that mounts to the windshield frame of the support for the part over the front seats.

Oddly enough, I got my Blazer out of Dallas GA and have seen at least two for sale there since I got mine in July. Appears to be quite a few around that area.

Re: Blazer soft top

Problem with that he would have to cut your top in pieces to make a template is what I was told .

Re: Blazer soft top

Amazing timing and location. I've just ordered the canvas to start making my own bikini top. I was wondering if you guys had any insight on the earlier image. I'm trying to figure out how to attach the soft top to the truck above the windshield. I live in Atlanta, and would be happy to be a guinea pig for full size soft top measurements.

Re: Blazer soft top

I used a jig saw to cut the aluminum piece and bolted it to the brackets. Used a long piece of cardboard to come up with a template. I bought all the supplies from Lowe's, but those steel brackets and aluminum strips are at all the big hardware stores. The piece with the snaps is supplied by Softopper. I also used some rubber weather stripping so it wont contact the paint. I'm eventually going to make a better fitting one with sheet metal in the future when I have my welder but for now it does the job and no holes in the header.

Re: Blazer soft top

I sent him a message on facebook. The top is in OK shape, but won't last much longer. If he can use it for the template (cut it up, whatever) and I can get a new top out of it, he's welcome to it.

All good except I would prefer a slight slant at the rear, about the same angle as the orig. hard top. And, also available in Pacific Blue.

Re: Blazer soft top

I got in touch with him. He can have this top to cut up for the template as long as I can get one in return. He said he will look at doing it this winter. I'll probably take my top up to him in the next month or so and let him have at it...
