EBAY fake?
I have been looking for an original 71-72 Short fleet 2wd Cheyenne or CST and have come across plenty of fakes. Some people probably don't care, but I think sellers should tell buyers that they are long beds converted to short.
Currrent ebay listing #191307474496. What's your opinion? Terry

Re: EBAY fake?
The reproduced SPID (not disclosed) with what is described as original paint in the cab is a big red flag as regards documenting authenticity as a BB SWB Super. A serious buyer should ask for a pic of the original SPID.

Re: EBAY fake?
Running the VIN will tell us 1/2 vs. 3/4 t, year of manufacture, plant, Chevy vs. GMC, production # for examples but not how the truck was outfitted nor if it was originally SWB vs. LWB. If he had the original sales receipt that would help out. If I were serious I'd get confirmation the VIN on the cab, frame, and original SPID matched. It's a nice truck as is but if it's billed as original BB SWB Super it would be nice to see more documentation. Glancing at the GB door the wood grain looked original - I'll look again - but it's possible a PO removed a GB from a Super and typed up the SPID we see with a lot of added goodies.
EDIT: Whoever did the SPID did some research for sure but got a lot wrong. For example, it's listed as a Highlander and a Cheyenne Super, which was never a possible combo.

Re: EBAY fake?
Looks to be an original short bed. Often times when they are cut the middle stake pocket is not eliminated. Just need to check the frame to see if it's been cut. I'm sure the SPID has been retyped as well as all the good stuff added to it. That part means nothing to me, my only concern would be if it is cut down and not disclosed.

Correct^ Actually its listed as super cheyenne... Nice little truck, but i would research it close before buying to make sure of what you are getting. The brake pedal pad is almost worn through and shows no sign of being replaced. Should have stainless trim if it is a cheyenne. Definately a repro spid also.

Re: EBAY fake?
The SPID is a joke...he would have been better off not even adding one. With that VIN the buyer had better crawl underneath or at least ask for pics. It's possible there was a frame swap, but with the amount of work involved it is more likely to have been cut. It would be nice to see either way.

Re: EBAY fake?
Imo the seller would be better off fully disclosing that this is a "built" truck. Either he is truly clueless or trying to pull a scam. The fact that he mentions he has known of the truck for 20 yrs suggests to me the latter, but i guess a po could have built it 25 yrs ago.
Imo its still a $10k truck if solid, non cut frame and real swb bed. |

Re: EBAY fake?
The vin on the spid is in fact for a 3/4 ton truck. Best case scenario, someone sat a super cheyenne cab and clip on a donor swb frame and bed. Worse case, cut down frame and lwb bed, but bed looks to be original swb. You can tell by front edge of wheel opening. Someone pointed out the difference to me a while back.
Also, tachometer and amp oil temp are not listed separately as you automatically got them with the tach. |

Re: EBAY fake?
Thanks for all the responses. My opinion is that the frame has been cut. The owner was very cooperative by sending me pics of the frame and VIN plate. The part # on the frame comes back to a 127" wb. The VIN shows a 3/4 ton. Nice truck, just not for me.

Re: EBAY fake?
Glad you found out the story. It is a very nice truck and I agree with widesides opinion on value. Hopefully the frame was done properly. Judging from the rest of the truck it probably was.
