Drip rail question

I was looking at CopperHead a couple days ago and got to thinking about the shaved drip rails. What do you guys think about it.

In my opinion the drip rails are a functional part of the design of our trucks. Personally I wouldn't "shave" 'em. Now, if a fella was inclined to build a shaved, slammed and chopped truck for occasional use, by all means do so. We've all seen some really well executed mods, and some pretty sloppy ones as well. If you decide to go ahead with it, make sure you weld it up solid, as the drip rail is what holds the top of the cab together. Good luck!

I plan on doing mine when I chop the top. IMO anybody can have a stock truck.

i think they kinda look neat, and wouldnt water get all over you when you open/close the door and its raining outside? (with no drip rails). just gotta watch em for rust thru.

The 67-72 Chevy truck was the first modern truck. Every truck made since then copied or stole some of its design....and Chevy went down hill somewhat after that...mostly because the government was getting in there business and they were spending all their money trying to meet the new gov specs on pollution and crash worthiness. I love custom stuff but in my opinion 99% of the "custom" 67-72's I see just don't look as good as a bone stock Cheyenne. From 73 up...break out the mig welder and have a party

GM tried removing the driprails on the early '73-'87 trucks....the cabs had a bad problem of getting water in them.

Slightly later model trucks (not sure which year) have bolted-on driprials. Think it started around '75 or so, but i don't know those trucks that great.

I wouldn't shave them myself, but i much say that it does make a very clean and handsome package....would look pretty good with 1-pc windows, and all trim removed (please KEEP the doorhandles though!).

I know that this is going to sound weird but here is what I am going to do -- Shave the drip rail, put Bear Claw door latches (for a custom look) -- I have already moved the gas tank under the bed, and I have shaved the firewall and hidden all the wires from the firewire. I would like for it to look stock from the outside with a few mild customs. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Shave em!!!! But I would reallly think about it before you do it one you cut em off that's it no going back!!!!!

I have not chop one YET. The chop I plan on doing is a 2" rake and 1 1/2" chop. Not to much, I'm 6'3", just enough to be different. There is an article in Classic Trucks/November 1999, that does this same chop. I brings the back window level with the door glass and removes the drip rail. My truck will some day look almost like Lokit's. If I ever quit getting laid off, 3 times since November 2002. Here is a pic of what I'm talking about.

I have looked at several choped tops and that is the one that I like best. Although I don't think that I am ready for that yet.
