If you lost your truck, what would you do?

I love my 1972 stepside swb. One of the (rather lame) excuses I had for not driving it was "to prevent its theft." Now that I plan to use it as a daily driver truck, I had to come to terms with the possibility it might be stolen (not likely being a 3OTT) or wrecked.

I would replace mine with a lwb stepside and maybe even paint it the same color.

What would you do?

I'd have to replace it with something a little bigger, like a diesel crew cab short box.

My truck is a little small for my needs today; I could not have predicted that 28 years ago when I ordered it (hard to see that far into the future).

Buy a late 60's Camaro with the insurance money and move on.

Depends. Total loss, or "totaled" according to the insurance co. If it were a total loss, burned, or otherwise destroyed, I'd be sad for a while, then start looking for something else. If it were an accident and totaled, I'd be sad for a while, then part it out to the last usable part then sell, barter, or use those parts as a start on another truck.

I wouldn't replace it with anything with a WOOD BED that can't be taken to car shows, in anything but SUNNY weather !!!

I'd probably buy a 70's convertible and we'd have FUN with that !!!

My 1967 Camaro was stolen once.

It was barely running at the time. I had just installed a Richmond 5-speed in it and it didn't have seats bolted in.

Anyway, they drove it about 2-3 miles out and it ran out of gas then they ditched it in the middle of the road. It was parked on the side of my parent's house away from my front door (we lived at an apartment attached to the other side) so I didn't notice until I got to church and my mom said "did you take the Camaro out today?"

Went home, called the cops and found out they had already towed it to the yard. Cost me $290 to get it out, and I had to have a guy hotwire it to drive it home. The thief cut the ignition wires way too close for me to hook them back up in a straight forward manor, and I was scared of electrical back then... such a shame.

Anyway, my plight only lasted a few hours, but I know that feeling of "it's gone?" It was definitely surreal. It didn't really register that it was missing, and I didn't really know what to think at the time. It was just... gone. But I got it back ... then sold it a few years later when my company went out of business

Don't know, I've had it for 18 years. Definitely cry a little. It's insured so I'd buy another.

I don't know if I'd have the "will" to rebuild another, I'd have to buy a "finished" truck to replace it.

I love my SWB fleet, but something about a dropped burb or blazer would make me think about picking up the extra interior room. I'd stay 67-72.

First off I would go to the key cabinet, get the keys for one of the other ones and start driving it..... I probably wouldn't replace it cause I have too many now...

I have a friend with a '72 GTO which was stolen and recovered back in the day.

It has a 3 speed (floor shifted), which is the way he ordered it since he liked his similarly equipped '67 so well.

At any rate, when he recovered the car he said witnesses came forward and said the thieves drove off "...with a lot of grinding of gears and noise".

They probably didn't know it was a three speed and were jamming it into reverse.

'09 Sierra- It's paid down-Cash the check and sit on some dough. Probably buy a 95-99 Sierra ecsb and plot an LS swap.
'87 Sierra Classic-Cash the check
'02 s10- Be bummed, liability only, but I got it for basically free in a trade, so it's a push.

I have a few different projects. The k20 holds a special place for me because it's for my wife and a colaberation.

If it was somehow "lost" it would sting a little due to time money and memories but like loc doc I have others. My personal favorite being the cj5. The gladiator is way ahead of its time but too nice to drive...but I'm getting side tracked. I'd feel it. Maybe be a little "what the heck?" and just move on.

I'm kind of surprised by some of the posts, sounds like some guys aren't too attached to their trucks and more interested in $$. Shame!

I'd start searching for another one the same day. (must be original paint of course)

If mine was totaled or stolen-----I have an agreed value policy in place for a reason. I'd go find another 67-72, but this time I'd put my money up front and buy something already done or very close to it. Maybe go for a Blazer or a 'Burb so both of my kids could ride with me (once my son is old enough).

Unless the truck has specific sentimental value then it can always be replaced with the right amount of money. While I get attached to things I do step back and realize that they are just that: things. Took me a few years to figure out, but it's a lesson I'm glad I've learned.

While I would be more interested in the truck than the money, the money would help sooth any pain and find a replacement. When my Camaro was stolen it wasn't insured, so I would have been kind of lost if it hadn't been recovered.

I would replace my '69 LWB BB 1/2t with a '67 GMC 3/4 small window, 327 th400 like I had years ago in the '90's. Wish I had never sold that one.

I'd be upset, all right, but I've owned quite a few project cars and trucks. This one only carries liability insurance, but I didn't pay all that much for it. I'd try getting another pickup as funds allow - probably another '60s through '70s long bed, but I don't have enough brand loyalty to stick to just Chevies.

I drove my truck up to Hayesville ,North Carolina last weekend to let the previous owner inspect it after I had it restored as I promised him I would .He was real pleased with it and said he had really missed it but that he was glad it went to me since he could not afford to do it justice (his words) so I would be lost without it and would probably try to find another one already done similar to mine now. I do get attached to them and my wife has named all of them. When I sold my 55 Bel Air she said we had lost a member of the family and I could not sell any others .

This is one of those "I really don't know" questions. I've owned it for 37 years so you could say I'm attached to it. It was my DD for 32 of those years but since I retired, it mostly sits until I have some heavy hauling to do. Guess I won't know the answer until the truck is stolen or wrecked. I hope neither ever happens.
