Engine frame mounts 6cyl or 8cyl
I'm swapping out the six for a sbc and was wondering, are the frame mounts the same for the 6 and 8. Or do I just need new motor mounts?

Re: Engine frame mounts 6cyl or 8cyl
Frame mounts are different, but will work for a small block V-8. Your engine will be closer to the firewall. The V-8 mounts use the forward position holes in the frame, and are angled different that the 6 cyl. ones.

If I use the 6 mounts do I need to use a different trans mount? It has a three speed manual in it.

Re: Engine frame mounts 6cyl or 8cyl
With the 6 cyl. mounts it will bolt right to the trans bell housing the way it is. You'll have to mess with the clutch cross shaft to get it to line up. mine is slanting downward and it was rubbing on the headers. I had to heat and bend the top pedal arm to get to stop rubbing on the header.

Re: Engine frame mounts 6cyl or 8cyl
I put my 350 in on the 6 cyl mounts and it is really close to the firewall. A regular distributor might fit but I dont think an HEI will. I have an LT1 so I dont have a distributor out back but wanted to give you a heads up. Maybe someone can answer this with experience.

I have HEI on mine, I can stick my fingers between the cap and firewall.. Have to remove cap to pull the dizzy but it will go.

Re: Engine frame mounts 6cyl or 8cyl
I'll second this. I swapped the 6 cyl. that was in mine for a small block just so I didn't have to find a different driveshaft and so on. Been driving it all summer without a problem, but the HEI cap gets super close to the fire wall. If I remember right I think I read on here somewhere that the 4wd pickups came with the motors back like this? Does anyone know if that's true?
