Moody Blues
I should of called my truck Moody Blues instead of Marathon Blue, I had sprung a oil leak on the top back side of the engine, I tighten the Distributer, and the oil sending unit not leaking,Not the valve covers, its only on the passenger side top and running down the back side of transmission passenger side, could it be the rear intake gasket, I ran the engine off and on without the body on it for months and never had any leaks, but low and behold i put the body on and finish the truck and within a month i get a leak. And its not a small leak either. I tried using a small mirror to see on the back but the engine sit really close to the fire wall, I really did not want to pull the top of the engine but it looks like i do not have a choice.

Re: Moody Blues
If your sure it is not the valve cover and the distributor gasket, it is more than likely the intake manifold leaking

Re: Moody Blues
You've already got the process of elimination going! You can always spray some degreaser back there and clean it as good as possible before you go pulling parts but, I think you already know where it's leaking from Best of luck!

Re: Moody Blues
The engine is spotless and the oil is fresh and clean so that makes it really hard to see oil coming out, I tried feeling back there to feel oil but its close quarters, But i will change valve cover gaskets first, then if that dont do it i will pull the intake, Thanks guys

Re: Moody Blues
Clean off any oil you can see and once the area is dry dust it with baby powder and then run the engine the powder will lead you directly to the leak (aircraft mechanics use this trick everyday to find hidden leaks and avoid tear downs)When done just hose off the remaining powder .

Re: Moody Blues
I've got a little trick for you, clean the area really well using brake cleaner (because ot removes the oil and makes the surface really dry) go to your local walmart or pharmacy store and pick up a couple cans of Tinactin spray foot powder. It is usually in a white can with a maroon/burgundy lid. Spray the hell out of the area the powder will dry white. Run the engine for a few minutes and look back there again with the mirror. The area where the leak is will turn brown and is easy to spot against the white powder. This is a trick we use in motorcycle shops to find small oil leaks, works great as long as you get the surface clean ahead of time

Re: Moody Blues
That's what I said but baby powder is A LOT less expensive than Tinactin. And smells better

Re: Moody Blues
Yah, I read that right after I completed my post. I like the tinactin because it sprays on, but yah from a cost point baby powder is cheaper

Re: Moody Blues
I have thought using red food coloring added to the crankcase? I can't see how it could hurt anything and would leave a blood trail. Or maybe green because red might look too much like ATF! my .02. G.
