just a question for yall

I changed out my gear indicator and pointer from black to blue. Now the fiber optic light does not work. But more importantly, my battery won't stay charged. Could these two be related?

Re: just a question for yall

The light that illuminates the fiber in the selector is under the dash. Look for a bulb with an extra wire attached to the bulb . I don't know any better way to explain it. I cant think of any reason for that bulb to be draining you battery.

I would say they are not related.

Thanks Jason, I'll take a look. I didn't figure it was related, but after swapping parts I can't keep the battery charged anymore

Re: just a question for yall

If you can get a picture of that bulb that lights the indicator it might solve a question in another thread, mystery bulb.

I think they solved that one. The bulb did the fiber optic indicator, if I'm correct after looking, gets it's light from the left turn indicator bulb.

Nope, the fiber optic has it's own bulb.

Re: just a question for yall

I did find out today by disconnecting the battery with the truck running, the alternator is no good...but here's the kicker...had tested at the parts house. Came out to 14.3 amps, so it tested good

You mean 14.3 volts, right?

So check for a draw. Remove one of the battery cables and install a test light between the battery post and the cable (anything more than a very faint dim light will indicate excessive draw). Then, if it has a draw, start pulling the fuses to try to make the test light go out. If you can't make it go out pulling fuses, dis-connect the alternator itself (it can cause a draw).

Let us know what happens

Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes those gremlins can be a pain in the rear....
