Is it possible to install a stock trans dipstick?
Like a dumb ass I forgot to install the stock steel trans dipstick and tube prior to installing the trans and engine. I tried for some time to get it in but no dice so I purchased a transgo shorty dipstick (worst decision of my life!!) to get the burb rolling. After one day the dipstick melted off and now I cannot check or add fluid.
Is there a trick to putting in a stock tube with the trans in the truck? Is there another dipstick others recommend? Anyone have any recommendations on getting a trans pan not to leak? Ive tried 3 gaskets (stock cork, cork and something else, and rubber composite) and 3 oil pans (stock, cast aluminum, 3qt steel) and over night it will leak out a quart and at $15 each its getting pricey!! |

stock ones go in and out pretty easy. move the wires or whatever you have to move.
also use an aluminum pan with a rubber gasket with steel core. tighten it according to the torque specs. there should be no issue if you tighten it in the correct sequence and to spec. make sure a steel pan has not warped from over tightening. |

I have had them give some grief just get a buddy one up top the other down below guiding it. I'm sure that will work for you.

Just an update, picked up a new late universal type with the boot and locking stick. Went in super smooth and took about 10 minutes to install.
Now I just want to know where the rest of the plastic dipstick went! |

Re: Is it possible to install a stock trans dipstick?
I used a stock type with the small o-ring at the end of it, the dang thing was always leaking.
I ended up pulling a dipstick tube from a 95 Suburban, cost $7 from the junkyard. It was the type that had the grommet at the end of it. Worked out much better… |
