Electric Fan on Ebay

Thinking of putting an electric fan on the Chevy. 350 runs hot when idling/cruising under 10 mph.

Any opinions on a cheap kit like this?

I'm a big believer in "you get what you paid for" but I don't have any experience with these.

Also, if wired to run even with the ignition off, would the draw be too much? Run the battery down until the temp drops below 170 or so?

My truck gets hot also when sitting in traffic. I have an electric fan that was in the truck before and I am just going to add it to the front of the radiator and turn it on with a toggle switch when needed.
They do draw alot and you will also have to have an alt that can keep up if you are going tto just run the electric fan and I would not let it run when the engine is off. It can wear down a battery.

Make sure it's a puller NOT a pusher! I have a 16" on the 64 and it keeps it cool. also have twin 10's on my Ls powered S10 and they keep it cool.

they generally draw about 15 amps. not really a power monster in my book.

ive had that style fan for years on all my rides. never the fan that fails.

thermostat sticking and causing the fan to stay on. resulting in a overheating relay.

helps to make a full shroud and even seal it up. just my .02 cents.

How much current it draws tells you a lot about how much work it's doing actually moving air. The high performance 16" Spal draws between 27A and 30A depending on the static pressure it sees. Cheap fans draw less and do less since they have small motors and less efficient blade designs. I don't like the sound of electric fans so I always use a good one that will not have to run long.

If you want it to stay on with the key off, I would use a fan controller that will let you program a shut off timer so if it's on when you key the engine off it will run for one minute or whatever you choose. Using temp to turn it off can run you battery down if the temp switch is in a spot that will stay hot even though the radiator is cool.

More to the point, your engine should be able to idle or cruise at 10mph indefinitely and not overheat. You could have a bad tune, poor shrouding or a clogged radiator. Most old hot rods have two of these going on.
