Whine from the carb
There's a high-pitched whine coming from my Edelbrock carb, especially when the engine is idling. The noise dies down a bit when I accelerate. I attached a picture. The whine seems to be coming from the part with a small gap in it (choke assembly?) that is below the carb. The black part with the old triangle shaped gasket. What is this part called and what's it function? Should I probably replace? Any help is appreciated. This board and the venerable board members are so helpful as I'm replacing all the parts on my 67 c10.

Eddy carb needs an adaptor plate and gasket to fit on your stock intake.
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. |

So you think the leak is between the carb and the stock intake? Should I just remove the carb and put a new plate and gasket in?

You need a spread bore to square bore adapter. mr. gasket 1932 or edelbrock 2693

You should pull the carb off and see exactly what you have for gaskets before buying an adaptor.
Take some pics for us. You might only need a new gasket. |

It seems you have a later model manifold. First see if the gasket under the triangular plate is leaking. It is an EGR block off plate.

OK. Will pull off the carb and see what I"m dealing with. The engine is a mid-80s Chevy/Pontiac, I think. v8 350. I replaced the distributor and there was a 5 15 1986 etched into the coil, which makes me think the truck's motor was replaced around then. Thanks for the help. Will post pics with the carb off.

I'm not exactly a hot rod guy. I just like driving an old truck on the weekends. So would I be making a mistake to simply replace the EGR gasket and plate?

Might be the vacuum leak. Leave the carb alone for now. |
