What is this?

Does anyone know exactly what this little flapper door is for? Theres one on each side of the firewall. Basically, can it be removed and sealed or not?

Re: What is this?

Its a drain for the cowl. It directs the water outwards away from the inner fender well

If you seal up the hole on the firewall, your cowl will turn into a swimming pool when it rains.

I'm sure there are options, there are plenty of guys smoothing their firewalls.

Re: What is this?

Good to know, thanks. And yeah, the plan is to eventually smooth the firewall.
