Universal Power Window Kit

Saw this on amazon today. Really, really cheap. Has anyone installed something like this on their truck?

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

Don't know about that brand, but the cable driven ones are not powerful enough to raise the window if the division bar channel is worn.

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

My windows roll up and down with little effort. Would that make a difference?

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

Probably. You can make your own out of stock regulators. Search for "power windows on the cheap" in the box at the top of the page. Be sure to click on the 67-72 dot first.

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

I just put a set of these Electric Life PW regulators in my sons 71 GMC. It's an easy install and they work great. http://electric-life.com/shopexd.asp?id=926

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

Those cable ones still drive the factory window crankshaft, so I guess they must stick out of the door somehow (since the shaft itself does). Unless they have you cut it off. I'd like to see a picture of this style installed.

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

I have used these on two streetrod builds and they work great. Real easy to install .

Re: Universal Power Window Kit

X2 on the Electric Life kit. Really strong motors and no faffing around with "custom" mounts, etc. Even possible to keep the stock cranks. I've had my kit installed for about a year now and the motors are still really fast. Wired in for remote fob control is cool too.

Here's the full story on the install on my '68...

Hope this helps!

Dave, there is a cover in the kit that goes over the shaft but it does not look good IMO. And you have to drill several holes in the door to mount the motor
and the part that goes over the splined regulator shaft. I had the passenger
side installed, but it would not raise the window without help. Member bonnieclyde100 made power regulators from his stock ones. He has a youtube video on it. Only cost would be the motors and wiring/switches. I did mine patterned after his and they work great.
