Dash pad interchangeability
A buddy asked this question, and I wasn't 100% sure I had the right answer, so...
Can an early dashpad '73-'80(?) be installed in an '81-'87? I know that the model placard trim, A/C vents, and the outboard edge are different between the two, but can the early pad be bolted in place without hacking it all up?

Re: Dash pad interchangeability
Yes, but...
The main sticking point is the position of the light switch/wiper switch placement. You can put the newer pad in an older truck, and use the original dash bezel. The bezel will fit OK at the top. The newer dash bezel will not fit happily with an older dash pad at the top. This is exaggerated if the truck is an 84-up that has the wiper on the dash.

Re: Dash pad interchangeability
Agree - the sheetmetal under the dash pad is the same.
However (additionally) installing an early dash pad in a later truck will cover the VIN up in most applications (unless you cut a window in that location). K
