The inner is in great shape. I have it and the marker lights left over if anyone needs them. I only modified the outer metal grille.. The other stuff simply unbolted.

Thumbs up

I think that's a great idea and execution to achieve the results you want.

Now you just got to turn your attention to that Business Mans coupe and slice and dice a back seat into it instead of trading down for a Burb. Your coupe is a fine vehicle with extensive mods already made to it, and you obviously cherish the vehicle. Keep it and make it a four passenger vehicle. Come on, no double standards, you "Ain't Skeert" to cut one up are you?

By the way, those are new GM 71-72 bezels on there. I have the black 69-70 ones still left over too.

CPNE- I don't know. I built that car a long time ago. I'm the kind of guy that likes to always move forward. Once I've built one, I usually just sell it rather than refresh it when it gets to showing it's age.

Thats cool. I just read your post on the parts board and thought there isn't any burb worth trading that for. Anyway good luck, but why not just get a nice 4 door Corolla or such and keep the Coupe, and buy a burb project! Win Win Win

I already have two Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton trucks, the 54 Chevy, my 70 stepside, a 90 Mustang 5.0L coupe, and the 77 Blazer.

My wife has instituted a zero population growth policy at the house.

Also, I have I don't know how many cars and trucks in my little private junkyard at the back of the 40 acres. Probably 15 or so.

Sounds like an excuse for another project rather than a need for an additional seat. Your secret's safe with me, but I can't believe your wife isn't seeing through it!

Anyway, good luck with your quest, I'd like to see another burb saved. And keep us informed on the short-step's transformation!

AHHHHHHHHHH!

I wouldn't care if it had been a repo but finding a 70 down in that kind of shape is hard. The Repo's don't say Chevy.

Otherwise it's a nice trick.

Grim , some do some don't , it depends on the company and what you want to pay for them. Although I'm, not sure if they come recessed like the originals on all of them, since I've seen the lettering come as a seperate item for those.

Here's the deal. I actually bought a used 72 outer and it wound up not being in as good of shape as my 70 outer was. These things are a ***** to ship. No one locally really wanted it. My truck money comes from my landscaping business and it's January so we're not mowing much. I don't have much money to spare right now and I needed to get the grille issue worked out.

I have the whole front clip off right now for the BB swap and I certainly didn't want to put the 70 grille back on for awhile till I turned up a useable 72 grille.

This was the solution. Besides, GM still makes the outer grille. They aren't rare at all. My dealership parts man will sell me all of them I want to buy at 300 bucks each. They ain't rare, just expensive. It beat paying for a new 72 outer anyway.

On edit: I'm not going to get into the issue of repro grille or not. I personally know that this grille has been on this truck for 24 years. No doubt. Whether it's a repro or not I don't know. If it's a repro, it's a 24+ year old one!
