auto crossmember help

so I have a 60 apache and I am using the original frame...I did a front stub and rear end swap from a 85 Silverado to get 5 lug and disc brakes....so now I am at the point of installing my motor and tranny...I was wondering what you guys used for the transmission cross member in the x frame and if anyone had pics .....also looking for some help on where the crossmember needs to be...going with 327 and a 700r4 using the 85 engine mounts on the frame...any help would be great

Re: auto crossmember help

I saw a real simple one made with angle stock.
I'll see if I can find it.

Re: auto crossmember help

There is a hole pattern of 3 holes on each side of the X-member. This is where the factory auto trans crossmember bolted in.

Re: auto crossmember help

I wonder if Captain is thinking of the 63+ frames, I don't remember seeing the bolt holes on my 62 frame either.

Re: auto crossmember help

As far as locating where to mount it ....
My plan when I go to do mine is to secure the front of the engine block so when I remove the manual tranny and bellhousing, the engine stays located and tilted in the same location.
Then I was going to bolt up my auto tranny to the engine. Then I'll know where the mounting location of the tranny crossmember needs to be.

Re: auto crossmember help

Nope, it is on the '60-'62 frames. It is also mentioned in post #15 or the thread you linked below. I'll have to see if I can get a pic and post it.
