new bed kit

I'm getting ready to put a new wood bed kit in my '68 short step four eye. My angle strips are not in too bad of shape . Thinking about cleaning them up and leaving them. My question is are they spotwelded in to the side of the bed? This is just a driver , it'll be a parts hauler. Sorry no pics.

Re: new bed kit

I'm still deciding on mine too... Was actually thinking about getting a few buddies together and picking up the wood slats from an old barn or Cypress from a sawmill and making it a weekend redneck project.

definitely spotwelded and a pain in the kiester to remove. Spotweld bit helps, but if you grind or break them, you stand a good chance of dinging or ripping the bed walls (ask me how I know.)
