WHOA!!! All this time I thought I had a TH350...wow, should I be happy I have a TH400 instead of a TH350?

Alot Of people say that if you have a 400 you will get quicket E.T.s from a th350 due to less rotating mass And If you have a 350 and your vehicle wiehgs under 3800 you can run faster with a glide due to less rotating mass

One of the things i dont like about a 400 is the fact that they wont Hold 1st gear friend of mine has one in a 94 isuzu and he cant get but maybe 5000 out of first gear before it will shift into second .. when the modulator looses vaccum it will shift into 2nd gear They make a shift kit to fix this but myself i prefer a 350 they dont need any mod to have a manual first

The 400 is a stonger unit thou .

I didn't know I had a 400 either until my uncle was doing a brake job on my truck and he happened to see it. I was pretty happy to find out I had a 400, something different right...

I thought GM mostly put the th400 on heavier duty trucks, but oddly enough my 87 Short 1/2T with a 305 has a th400 under it, too.

The only thing about TH400's vs 350's is that they eat about 30 horses vs the 15 that the 350 does. Its due to it being heavier duty and being able to take about 500TQ stock

Id be excited, now you dont have to worry about busting your tranny when you get engine upgrades

i wouldn't bee too happy about having one. th350 is plenty strong enough for what you have and more. having the 400 in there is just eating up more power.

yeah I just found out my soon to be "parts" burb has a 4L80E. I guess im stoked? either way its worth more than the 700r4 that I thought was in there. Hell I might even be able to get it to run off the stock computer in another vehicle. that would be cool. VSS, what else could it depend on? TPS, no big deal.. tach signal? no biggie. We'll see.

Yeah thats a possibilty it could be a 375 it would look just like a 400 but have a small diamter output shaft like a th350

lilbowtie: how many bolts are on the tail shaft housing, in that pic? Is it 4 or 6? I dont know much about the th375. What case style does it use, the 350 or 400?

I would assume a 375 lives in a th350's case, or its own custom case. Either way, a th400 always has 6 bolt tail shaft housing. in a Hex shape. Thats the quickest way to identify the trannies, and is especially easy if you're looking for transfer case adapters

Thats a 400 i think he was sayin that other guy might have a 375 because some of them trucks did come with them .. youve got the shorttail 400 there

375 uses a 400 case and has 6 bolts on the tail just like a 400 ill get a pic posted next time i go to the trans shop if anyone is interestd in seeing one ..

just like a 400 but it has a 350 style output shaft
