New guy saying hello

Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself....

Am starting up a restoration on my Dad's '69 GMC C15. I like to think I'm more mechanically inclined that your average Joe, but I know nada about restoring old vehicles.

Right now I'm concentrating on the engine, just seeing if I can get the thing running. It's been sitting behind the shop for 12 years, which is the last time the engine ran and even then it was a mess.

I'm going to have a ton of questions along the way so just wanted to warn you in advance.

Will post some pics first chance I get. As I said, the truck has sat behind his shop for almost 15 years....waiting for me to get a house and shop so I could restore it. After about 10 years of waiting, I've gotten antsy so decided to see if I can at least get it running and road-worthy again. They live an hour away so it sucks that I can't work on it every day.

At the least it'll be a good learning experience for me. Right now I've already laid out what I think is a good action plan to do prior to even turning the key.

And while I"m doing that, I'm running down some random questions I have on a few things I saw under the hood.

Ha! I promise to post pics tomorrow.

I'm really looking forward to it. I live messing around with stuff so this is all fun for me. Since the truck is an hour away, I hope to get it road-worthy so that I can drive it to my house and pull it into the garage when I want to work on it.

I know this will take a while and I'm aware that it may not even be doable within my budget, but no harm in trying.

For the past week I've been trying to figure out what engine I'm dealing with. I've narrowed it down to the 230 or the 250 and the only way I've found to know is to check bore stroke. I'm open to other suggestions if anyone has any.

I promised pics earlier, but admittedly got side-tracked this weekend. I do a lot of off-roading so I spend a lot of time working on my Jeep. This weekend was spent helping a friend do some mods on his.

Anyways, here are some pics. Not much to look at. The external and cab pics are from 12 years ago. The engine pics are from last weekend.
