Can I get rid of this?

This is what I guess used to be the heater hose that ran to the heater core, but the PO ran it to the intake instead. I have put a new manifold on, and if I'm not going to use my heater, can I just plug both holes and delete the hose?

Is your heater core bad? Just trying to figure out why a guy would do that.

That bypasses the thermostat when it's closed right?? It allows a little water flow through the engine when it's cold. I have one on my 327. It's not in exactly the same spot as yours though.

That wouldn't bypass the tstat. Think about it. The tstat is on the intake manifold, it is 1 of only 2 hoses that connect to the radiator. It will just pump water around and around in the engine until the tstat opens.

you really want to leave that hose there otherwise you will not have enough water flow thru the engine on a cold start, it allows water to circulate into the pump from the motor(intake)>>>>>>>water pump>>>>back thru the block>>>>up into the intake>>>>>thru that hose>>>>>>>begin again

just like sweet7t said
that hose actually bypasses the T-stat and radiator

lmao! I love how the PO put those fake aircraft fittings on and didn't bother to hide the gear clamps under them.

only reason i see that he could bypass the heater is he lives in arizona.man that would be nice.im tired of this cold

On trucks that have working heaters, a hose would normally go from the intake to the heater core and then from the heater core to the water pump, correct? So is coolant always running through the heater core? If so, then I guess I do need this hose.

Cat Fuzz- Yeah, the PO did some really funny stuff to this truck....

And the reason why I'm not worried about my heater is that I'm getting an aftermarket A/C setup

Just plug the holes. That really isn't a bypass, it just pumps coolant through the heater core and then back into the engine. If the engine is full of coolant, as it should be, you'll always have good flow regardless if that "bypass" line is there or not. That is the way I see it anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the hose from the water pump goes to the heater core, then it returns to the intake. It should go from the water pump to the bottom of the heater core, then from the top of the heater core to the intake.

Slammed 67- That was what I was thinking, too. Just didn't want to mess up anything. And yes, I you are correct about the hoses. There were several threads on the board about how the heater hoses hooked up. I read through them all trying to find out if I could delete this hose.

You can take a hose from intake to waterpump That way the pump will allso get coolant,it needs to circulate to cool then you can delete the hoses running from the heater core and put a cork in it at the core.Pretty much useless then Is that want u want hmmmmmm Just my 2cents
