Piece of cake My truck is a 61 so plenty of room. Took about 4 hours to install and plumb tank. used all new components. 69 Camaro tank with big block sending unit (it has the larger fuel line and the return line), 69 Camaro spring loaded tag bracket, 57 Chevy gas tank straps (cause I already had them), Couple pieces 1" square tubing for cross braces. You need to add a resistor in the fuel sending circuit to correct the fuel gauge don't remember what ohms it was but found the info on line. The tank I took out was near new if anyone needs it it's free must pick up cannot ship due to contains gas. I did this about 6 months ago and drive the truck everyday working great.

PDXHall did you modify resistance on Mustang sender for fuel gauge if so how? All of this resistance stuff is baffling to me!!

I'm going with aftermarket gauges so I just ordered a gauge that matches the Mustang sender. I believe there is someone on the board here that did a write up on modifying the sender. I'll see if I can locate it.

WOOHOO! This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for to lose the occasional gas smell and to free up that space where the OEM tank is for "stuff" (or speakers?). Man, now I'm gonna have to cover up that fuel filler hole during the resto of the longed step! Many thanks 57chevy406!! Now I'll have 2 interior tanks to get rid of (friend gave me HIS old one when he eliminated it).

Well, we crawled under the 66 and there's not a lot of room between the frame rails (maybe 30") and really not a lot from the last crossmember to the back, so it may be back to the drawing board....no license plate flip filler unless I can find a different tank like that Camaro tank to fit there.....

My truck currently has an LMC rear mounted, side fill tank, #2 in this picture:



I just picked up a filler neck from a '61-'63 full size Chevy car:



My plan is to, after some careful measuring and other prep, bring both to a welder, have the side fill opening welded closed and this welded to the back to end up with a '69 Camaro type filler behind the license plate. I'll post the results when I finally get to it.

This is what it looks like installed, but without a bumper. I've subsequently installed a bumper, but I don't think it is correct. I'll take another picture or two the next time I have daylight to work with.

The problem that I have is only 6 inches from framerail to ground!! I believe I[ATTACH]Attachment 1338326[/ATTACH] don't have any options besides a fuel cell in the bed or under raised bed floor!

You could get a custom one made for your dimensions.

Here is a picture with the bumper installed. I figure I will have to cut a semicircle into that rear crossmember so that the filler tube will be high enough on the tank to be able to take advantage of all 21 or so gallons of capacity.

4x4 will do that for you. I believe it is stock height, but it must be nosebleed height for the baggers out there.

I have this tank in my truck now. If I mounted the way he did it would be dragging on the ground. The rear has a 4" drop.

What does your bed floor look like? I don't think I could go up any higher with my install.

I got it up that high because I trimmed my cross sill. I put temporary plywood in the bed.

This is the Chevy van tank, not noticeably visible under the roll pan. I'm redoing the filler this winter and going with 2 inch widened tubs so it looks a little rough right now. Hope this helps.

I am curious how you re running the filler for it or how it will look after your mods.
