WTB Original AM/FM Radio

I'm looking to buy an OEM AM/FM radio correct for a 1972 chevy truck.

I'm going to have the internals gone through and upgraded with new electronics and the exterior restored to original. Based on this, I think the unit needs to be complete, with a good face, buttons and dials but don't think it needs to be (electrically) working.

Do you have one for me to buy or can you steer me in the right direction. Was thinking about having Mike Hagan do the work.

Re: WTB Original FM Radio

FYI

I just sent a radio out to Gary Tayman. With his conversion an AM radio is all you need. The push button & knob contols need to be good but the guts all get replaced with a new digital tuner. So you end up with a new sterio in your old housing.

Gary

Great info thanks.

I agree the $60 would have been a very good price

Very interesting,,,, I have not pursued an am/fm because of the larger size. I have factory A/C and stock AM radio. It's very crowded under the dash with the extra duct hoses. Hard to fit a larger am/fm radio in there.
But with the AM size radio, that would make it easier. Or am I looking at this wrong ?

Also, is there no slide bar on the Tayman conversion ??

With the Gary Tayman radios that are am and converted to am/fm there is no slidebar. You switch between am and fm with the volume knob.

Re: WTB Original FM Radio

I don't know if there's a size difference between am and am/fm ?

No slide bar needed, you switch from am to fm using the left knob, turn it off and back on quickly.

Wonderbarman said the best FM in a non-FM radio is an Audiovox converter. You showed read his take on the conversions on his unique site. Wonderbarman.com. Bruce

I had researched the radio conversions and saw both converting an AM and an AM/FM Radio. I like the look and function of the AM/FM Radio better.

So, if anyone has an original AM/FM radio for sale, I'm interested in buying!

Hey Elliot949, I know you asked Gary about the radio but it I thought I would answer your question because I also have a Gary Tayman converted radio. I absolutely love his radio. He does amazing work and this radio sounds hundreds times better than any other radios I have had. I have had it for a little over a year now and have had no problems with it. The sounds is great, the different capabilities the radio has as far as different amps, subs and such you can run a s great too. And you can add Bluetooth! In all I am extremely happy with it. Especially over any Autosoind radio in my opinion. So for budding in to your question, just wanted to let you know thatbits a great radio!

Thanks Wyatt... I am strongly leaning towards going this direction with my radio... I like the "STOCK" look... and even more than that the less possibility of a theft... Merry Christmas, Dan

Thanks Gary... Keep me posted if you will... I am still along ways out from having to make that kind of decision so I am watching responses to different things I am considering for "Class Act"...
