Ram Horn Manifolds

I am looking to put on some Corvette manifolds but not sure what my options are for where I can run the alternator.

I don't have holes in my heads for brackets and the power steering pump is on the diver side.

Will the Dorman 674-504 or 503 work?

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

I'm that crazy guy that comes along every time I see this, because I am compelled to say:

- Pretty engine!
- Get rid of that inline filter before is breaks and burns you to death
- Get rid of that rubber fuel line before it ruptures and burns you to death

My mother was a burn ward nurse, and I'm going off what she learned in inquests. Also do not jump and grab the power line when on a metal balcony. But that's for a different forum...

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

I am not 100% sure but I think the straight dump manifolds work on our old trucks if the motor is in the rear position aka the 4x4 position. 2wd trucks use the angle dump manifolds.

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

The straight dump exhaust are a really tight fit, and need a very competent exhaust guy to get them to work. Any other aftermarket items you have will be a crap shoot as to if they will work together with those manifolds. However, once installed, they are sweet!

Yeah we have a really good exhaust shop here. They do a lot of hot rods and custom jobs.

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

For my '67 I have a '68 truck 327 that had the bosses. When I built it I used old-style 64cc heads to be...old style. So, I'm in the same boat more or less. I have a set of Sanderson shorties I may use and I know brackets are made to mount the alternator w/headers. For rams horns, does anyone make such a set-up? Or, reproduce early Vette manifolds? Or, maybe the header bracket set-up could be made to work?

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

Can't you use the header style bracket and just get a longer belt? I did something similar in a '64 Impala years ago.

Sorry, I edited my post.
My lanuaging was un-fixed

I think that Corvette manifold Dorman # 674-504 uses the same bracket you are currently using, but I am not sure on that.

And... I think Slow-1 is right on that the motor mount tower locations do make a difference.

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

Here is the driver's side manifold with the built in alternator mount. Then just buy the appropriate Corvette pieces to bolt to it. They show this manifold to be for 62-63 'vette and it looks like the alternator could have been on either side in '63? So make sure you get the right pieces for driver's side install. The belt is longer on the 'vette setup if memory serves, so you may want to get the High Perf adjusting brace which I think is the brace just doubled up.

It also might be possible to use the 67-68 truck stuff. Maybe.

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

Anyone have any pictures of the center dump manifolds on there truck?

I just pulled off the driver side header and man what a pain in the butt. I had to pull most of the clutch linkage off to get it out.

Re: Ram Horn Manifolds

Just installed center dump Rams Horn exhaust manifolds this month on my truck. It is a tight fit, but they work great. Picked them up through Classic Industries for $209.99 for the pair. Attached some photos below.
