'66 Inner wing rust repairs - Advice needed please.

I have searched in general, and also looked through Woogeroo's Index, but could not find much process pics or warnings etc.

Firstly, some weird but predictable rust on the inner wings.

Usually they rust through to the supporting plate below, taking that away as well, but mine are both great, with only the top metal rotten.

I need some advice on how others have approached this repair.

I have about one and a half inner wings, inherited from Martin as he got a good pair in Florida last year.
So I suspect I will need to cut some pieces out of the donors and make them fit (hopefully)
Is it going to be possible to harvest sections for the tips that narrow down, from higher up the fenders?

These are my donor pieces from which I need to harvest replacement pieces for the rusty sections.

So if you have done this repair and recorded it, please post up here.

Thanks a lot.

I am about to tackle this myself. I have similar rust issues. bad pic, everythings piled in the bed, but you can see similar rust issues.

Many places sell the front inner fender patch panels for around $70.

I also found this thread which shows a picture of someone who repaired their own:

I have not really found much else on the subject. Since you have donor inner fenders, I would expect it to be a simple measure, cut, measure, cut, weld operation. Let us know what you end up doing. Do you weld?

Thank you very much for the reply.

Bret posted a reply on my build thread earlier on the last page, see build link at bottom of my signature.

I think I will be having a go at harvesting and trimming up bits from the cast offs I have.

Re: '66 Inner wing rust repairs - Advice needed please.

Since I don't weld, I repaired mine with JB Weld epoxy, as part of the elimination of the inner fenders. Sadly, the bracket underneath is what causes the rust/damage. The rear edge is wide open to collect and hold crud, leaves, debris, and water. It's designed exactly like the rear edge of the front fenders. This needs to be closed off after repairs are made, or the damage is just going to come back later.

If you have any interest, repairs on mine begin on page 4, post 98, of my build thread:

I'm not recommending repairs by epoxy to anyone with welding skills and equipment, just showing what it looked like when opened up.
