Re: i6 PaintColor ?
I do believe orange is the correct color, that's what mine is.

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
Chevy Engine Orange is correct for a '69 L6.
Prior to '67, like from '63-on there were variations, but it was standardized in '67. 292s came out in '63 with an Alpine Green. The 250s and 230s were blue, I think. I'm not an expert on smaller L6 displacements.

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
Thanx Fellas ! .
I finished spraying it last night and will try to post a couple pix to - day . 292's are alpine green ? all the Brochures show them as GM Red ~ I thought only the 261's were green . I was planning to paint my 292 GMC RED to offset my Woodland Green truck..... Comments please . BTW : Chevy Blue was for the 194 C.I. i6 engines used in Passengers cars .

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
In the 1963 Model Year, the 292 was Alpine Green. My pet theory is that former 261 buyers would be looking for a green block. Anyway by '67 GM standardized engine colors with Chevy Engine Orange for L6s and SBCs. Maybe BBCs too, IDK.
I have the original engine [back after rebuild] in my '68 C/10 Stepside- it's a 292 and a healthy Chevy Engine Orange. I remember it was orange when I bought it in 1973. I rebuilt a '67 292 and ran it in my Stepside for 25 years. It was Orange when I pulled it out of a Forest Service truck in the junkyard, before we rebuilt it. I also picked up a core motor 292 from a parts store guy. I ran the numbers and it was cast in 1962 for the '63 model year. That block is still Alpine Green. Also has the early style oil pan with the sump ''hump'' forward/midline, instead of aft like on the later L-25 292s.

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
O.K. ;
Here's what I did : And the other side : I began by inverting it and painting the sump etc. as it always bugs me when I looked under a rig and see un painted areas... Lots more to do obviously .

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
Dude, how'd the Valve Cover get dinged? Does that dent interfere with No. 1 Cyl rocker arm action?
Is that an old Jag I see peeking out behind your L6? Oh yeah. Nice paint.

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
The cheapo three legged engine stand caught in a hole in my driveway's old Concrete and tipped over..... I'm going to replace it with another , non chromed rockerbox that has a smaller dent , and keep looking for a good one .
The other car is my 1961 Morris Minor Saloon . Also has the engine out for cleaning as I was replacing the bad tranny and kinda got lost in the ' Might As Wells ' .

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
Now you have an excuse to get one of those cast-aluminum, finned valve covers.
My Dad had a '59 Jaguar Mark IX Saloon. Same or similar taillights. Now I know why the English drink warm beer -- Lucas refrigeration.

Re: i6 PaintColor ?
Alloy rockerbox ?! .
Not on CHEVY ! . Those LUCAS tail lights were used on many LBC's back in the day .
