Crate Motor for 1972 K20

I'm looking for advise. I've got a 1972 K20 with a 350 motor that is trashed. I was told by the original owner that the motor is "original" and was never rebuilt.

Given some questionable information he's given me in the past on the truck, I frankly don't believe anything he tells me.

I'd like to know if anyone has some recent experience/recommendations on the best source for a 350 crate motor.

Many thanks,

John

I'd make sure you get one with a hydraulic cam and not flat tappet. The tappet cams are an old design and not ideal for today's "zinc-less" oils unless you want to mix in the additives. Not a bad thing, but I wouldn't want one.

Re: Crate Motor for 1972 K20

I just installed a 350 / 330 hp crate. Gm part # 19210008

Got it from summit racing for right under $4k. Engine is very powerful. Runs very smooth too.

Here's a cold start video I made of the engine in my truck.

All depends on your budget and what you want.

I'm considering west coast engines as they have a better warranty and will basically put together whatever you want.
