Re: heater control light ?

I'm pretty sure the Deluxe Heater with the 4 levers had the light. The recirculating heater had the 2 levers and no light. Maybe the controls had a provision for the light but didn't have the grey wire to the fuse box. The diagram in the shop manual doesn't show the light wiring for the recirculating heater.

Re: heater control light ?

Sorry, C10 1963. I don,t see a place on mine with the 2 levers but I wonder if I can put the 4 lever plate on the back and just use the 2 levers. Hmmm?

Re: heater control light ?

I had a econo 2 lever without a light and I now have a deluxe 4 lever with a light in my '63 Chevy.

Hey Frankslagoon anyway you could document the change over with photo's for the less mechanically gifted of us? I wasn't aware of the light option, but it sounds like a cool upgrade.

Re: heater control light ?

Its been a while since I had mine out so I don't recall any rivets or their locations, but I do recall the housing that the light bulb goes into is above the control levers.
From the front they both appear the same except the econo heater control has the outer two slide slots blocked off from behind and the deluxe version uses all four.
You can see mine in this picture;

The rivet spots make it really hard to mount the 2 lever control in the 4 lever cover. you could do it but might be pretty sleazy.

The factory had a thin plastic or hard paper material mounted on the backside of the panel to block-out the voids. I would think with the thin plastics we can find today, you can put something like that or black backing tape in the insides of the delux box easily.

Re: heater control light ?

So. here,s what I came up with. There's not much room to work with. I screwed this one on but you could probably glue it. then just put one light hole in between the two levers. you have to stay as far forward as ya can or the box will hit the dash. and ya can't make it to wide or it gets in the way of the screw hole tabs. Actually you could just drill acouple small holes and put some miniature lights from radio shack in .
