cab bolts

just how important is having all 4 cab bolts in place. 1 area of the cab floor where the bolt passes through the support was damaged severely. but my other 3 are solid. I'm thinking of patching the area with scrape metal.

You'll probably expirence some weird cab vibration if you don't have all the bolts in. Oh and the vibration isn't what would bother me, I'd be worried about getting into a accident and the cab getting knocked off the frame. I'm sure you've debated that part too, just wanted to mention it.

Depends if you don't want the cab, and you with it, coming off in an accident I guess. GM was cheap. If three bolts would hold it, they would have used three.

With buckets the driver seat weighs a little more than the passenger seat and gets more bolts. If less would have held it, they wouldn't have added the extras.

If you're looking for someone to say "it's OK", you'll be hard pressed to find anyone. Will it come apart on a left hand turn? Probably not. But it should be fixed.

yeah guess i was hoping someone out there might have welded the cab in place, in lieu of solid cab bolts on hand. but now i can see how that would negate the use of the shock absorbing mounts/cushions.

One of the first major fixes I did was polyurethane cab mounts. Weld in new metal if you can. If not, self tapping screws are a quick fix, just so it's solid on all 4 mounts.

Not to high jack, but what are the bolt sizes needed to bolt it down? I have a cab that needs all four.

I need to buy a new rear bolt also if someone wants to chime in with the size. And if I can buy 1 mount instead of all 4, couldn't find that online either
