1971 turn signal

I searched forums and found nothing. My 71 both elements light up on the 1157 when turn signal is on. Therefor when headlights are on I have no front turn signals. This seems to be a ground issue but I cannot find it. I'm sure someone else has had this problem. I have chased grounds before and it is not much fun!, any help would be great.

Re: 1971 turn signal

They ground through the lamp assembly if I remember correctly, maybe remove the bulb and shine up the bulb and socket, apply some dielectric grease? Both sides or just one?

Re: 1971 turn signal

The wires are blue and purple one is hot when the turn signal is on and the other is hot when the parking light is on. The housing should be securly bolted to the bumper which provides a ground. The 1157 would only have power on both elements at the same time when you have the headlamps on and the turn signal at the same time. Check your flasher

Re: 1971 turn signal

Both sides are the same. I have cleaned them up and greased but have not checked the flasher. Thanks.

Re: 1971 turn signal

Are you talking both front lights or just one. It could be that one of the filaments has blown and attached itself to the other filament. Both sides would be on when either element is selected. Check the bulbs. VV

Re: 1971 turn signal

If you bought replacement housings (such as I did) you need to swap the purple and blue wires around to fix this issue.
