Afternoon Gentlemen!

So, as I start to use Woody a little more (nearly 400 miles in a month, get me) certain aspects of his character are beginning to...bother me...

So, with the search function being pretty hit and miss, thought I would ask others a few questions about improving on the ergonomics for the modern man.

First off, a little about my...size... about 6' 1" and weigh in around 190lbs.

Then the truck, Fuel tank in the cab - stock bench seat (that will be staying)

Round one of what I feel needs improving upon.

1. 1 I would like to lower the seat, as my line of sight is directly into the dark tint of the upper windscreen tint.
2. 2. Lower the brake pedal - think there was a thread on this a while back, and get a little more leg room.
3. 3. Move the wheel closer to the dash, away from driver.

What have you done and, more importantly, how.

I did all three.I am your height, but I have about 100 lbs on you so I need all the steering wheel room possible.
I lowered the brake pedal after reading the info in the following link. It worked great.

I installed a 72 tilt column, pushing it toward the dash as far as I could, gaining about an inch, maybe a little more.

I installed a cobra steering wheel (only a 1.75 inch dish)with a small adapter, and that gained me 3 to 4 inches over the stock steering wheel (stock wheel has about a 4.5 inch dish) I did have to take some of the offset out (heat and bend) of the shift lever because it was hitting the steering wheel in full up tilt.

I put power seats from a Cadillac catera, and they have power adjustments up and down. The adjustment moves the seat with about 3 inches of total adjustment up and down.

I will try and get a picture of the changes and post it later today.

The brake link is the one I was looking for, thanks.

Living in the UK it is somewhat difficult to find bench seats from anything suitable, plus I am a sucker for original seats!

Would lowering the seat then cause more problems in relation to thigh and pedal ratio? What about cutting the back legs down and leaving the front long so that that this ratio is improved whilst at the same time lowering my eye line?

And as for the steering wheel can the column be moved away from the driver whilst shortening the steering shaft?

Again, any advice and pictures appreciated.

I did a late model tilt column and s10 pedals, my setup is from a 1998 s10 but the 89-93 s10 pedal setup is more conducive to a swap (the earlier bracket is steel instead of the aluminium (I know you are in the UK ) the 98 setup is) Use the 89-93 S10 tilt column, and you can get a booster and master cylinder too and a with little bit of fab work have a really neat system. The S10 column comes with a key cylinder though, might use an ididit column if thats important to you

Hands down the best thing I did was use an 88-98 chevy fullsize seat. I am a big tall guy, and I actually have the seat a couple notches FORWARD of all the way back.



I know your pain about getting parts like this though. here is a picture of the s10 brake pedal/column mount, I plan to use it on my 49 chevy.
