60-62 Powergide Truck Info Needed
I have a 61 that I am piecing together. Did the powerglide trucks, 6 cyl or v8 originally have a front engine mount & just the trans mount all the way back to the tail housing ? It seems like a long spread to me, as in drag racing it is not acceptable(but those trannys are aluminum)...
BTW, the engine is a 409

Re: 60-62 Powergide Truck Info Needed
The 61 I have had a "horseshoe" type front engine mount...if you are running a 409, make sure the harmonic balancer will clear that mount.
I ran a 350 and it cleared it fine. When I went to the 383 with the larger balancer, the front mount would not clear and I had to go to side mounts. Tom

Yes, I already have the front horseshoe mount as the engine is out of a big truck, and a powerglide from a 61 283 that has the rear mount. Did Chevy originally use the front/rear mount, or was there bellhousing mounts like on the standard trans setup ?

Re: 60-62 Powergide Truck Info Needed
My truck had the front mount and the bell housing mounts. When I converted to the current 383 motor last year, I had to run the side mounts and the bell housing mounts. (I'm still running a 4 speed). There is not tailhousing mount on my truck.
I would think that if you have your block and the bell housing bolted up together and torgued down, that you would not get any "sag" in the middle if that middle part of the motor was unsupported. Tom

Re: 60-62 Powergide Truck Info Needed
1960-1962 trucks with Powerglides used a side mount for the engine and a very short crossmember for the rear of the trans. The rear crossmember was different between short and long bed. The Horseshoe mount was only for manual trans
