Where to go from here?
I have a 68 c10 fleetside 2wd that just finished having hotchkis tvs suspension, seats from a 2014 silverado, moser rear end, wilwood 6 piston in front and 4 piston in the rear. Also, i had a 396 bbc rebuilt. My biggest weakness is the motor so i am looking for some ideas. At the end of the day i want a truck that i can drive in the summer as well as autocross every once and a while. After spending too much (still in pain from paying for all the work done already) i need some ideas to get more power without breaking the bank. My first thought was a 6.0l turbo but i am not educated about turbo motors. Please share your opinions. I would like around 550-600 hp to the wheels. You will find pics below! Also, this forum has been a great source of info so thank you.

As far as the Autocross stuff type "No-Limit" or "robnolimit" into the Google search box at the top of this page, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com", and click on the Google button. And for the LS Turbo, type "LS Turbo" into the same box because there are a few guys on here that have built or are building them. I don't know much about either one so that is the easiest way for me to help you. I rode with RobNoLimit in the Autocross at the Des Moines, Iowa GoodGuys and I can tell you he is one bada$$ autocross driver.... LockDoc

Sounds like you have a pretty good start and just need some better tuning of that 396 BBC. That motor is fully capable of putting out 700+ hp with the right design of components involved and be a turn key daily driver. Gas mileage is the only thing you will be giving up... if you want that too, you ARE asking too much of this motor.
A turbo motor is going to cost you more in the beginning and in the long run because they require more maintenance than a N/A motor. Dont kid yourself into thinking they dont need to be as strong and that the turbos provide the magic... they also provide lots of heat which most motors dont like at all. So if you want to really burn money than thats the way to go. If you want your cake and eat it too.... then get a 6.2L LS supercharged crate engine from GM motorsports and you can have 550HP and 30mpg too (if you can keep your right foot from having seizures on the pedal!) I think they go for about $18K.... You can build a nice LS supercharged for about $8-10K |

I like the idea of 6.2l Supercharged but too much $$ right now. I like the sounds of 8-10K$$ LS SUPERCHARGED, ill need to look into that. Attached are the pics EARNHARDT#3. Thanks! |

Early production had small window which I believe were left over from 67's

Yeah there was a recent thread about this. Does it have the 67 ignition switch bezel or the 68?

Hope you dont mind questions:
So how do you like the 6/4 piston Wilwood setup on that truck with the BBC weight up front? is it power assist too? very touchy or? does it have a manual prop valve for the rear? Also wanted to ask about the spring weight used on the front? do you know what they are? Thanks for the help - you got a great truck there! For the LS upgrades; check into a late model LS engine and then look into a Edelbrock supercharger package, they run about 5-6K

Ill get back to you on how I like the brakes, we are currently tuning the motor so we can adjust the brakes right but it does have proportion valves to make adjustments. The springs are from the factory Hotchkis TVS system, if I end up swapping to ls im sure it will raise the front 1 inch.
Also, Ill send some pics as soon as it is done being tuned. ( I think there is an issue with the carb, so im trying a working carb tonight.) |
