wire speed erratic on welder ?

I have a little Lincoln weld pac 100 with a small roll of wire on it but my wire speed seems erratic some times.I cleaned the small rollers for the wire and it is set on the proper wire dia..Is there some other maintenance I should do.Would a little bit of grease or something on the back of the wire spool help to make it spin easier.

Do you have the drive roller tension set to tight or too loose maybe? Is your drive roller worn out? How does the wire move in the liner if you took the tension off of your driver roller? Is your spool bolted up to tight?

Are your drive rollers the right size for the wire? In your liner worn out?

Disconnect the wire and pull the trigger. See if the motor turns at a consistent rate.

Are those brass or teflon rollers? The plastic/tef rollers can wear a little channel in them, so even when they are tight, they will hit each other before feeding an ultra-thin wire like a .23

I think I got it,the spool is a little wider than the lincoln ones and was trying to tighten the nut as the spool turned so I found a thin washer and seems to work.

How do you know how much to tighten spool and the drive rollers as you can see on mine is just a wing nut for drive rollers

If you take the wing nut all the way out there is an adjusting bolt inside that uses a allen wrench.

Too tight and it'll just spool back into the machine and be jerky coming out.. to loose and it may not make it to the end of the line or end up unwinding in the machine.
