Is this a safe hitch setup?
This came on my truck when I bought it, looks like they used good hardware and washers so bolts won't pull through frame but wanted to see if this is a common way to install hitch to make sure it's safe. I know all about towing safety, etc more concerned with opinions on the attachment of my particular setup. Thanks! Sorry about upside down pic, can't get it right side up! Ugh

Re: Is this a safe hitch setup?
Fixed it for you. Looks like a normal installation to me.

Re: Is this a safe hitch setup?
The only difference from a factory type application there is no bolts at the center under the bumper. But as far as a aftermarket ap goes, yes it all looks good to go. Jim

Re: Is this a safe hitch setup?
GM pretty much the only one that uses the center bolt to the bumper to reinforce the hitch. I replaced my OEM hitch on my Duramax with a much stronger B&W receiver that eliminates that setup.
This hitch looks like a standard class III hitch which should be good for 500# on the tongue and 5000# tow weight.

Re: Is this a safe hitch setup?
I see no issue for a lighter tongue & tow weight like Mike C stated. If you want to "FEEL" safer, put a "U" shaped bracket between the tongue area of the cross tube and attach it to the frame. A lot of hitches come with the "U" shaped bracket but it might depend on the "CLASS" of the hitch.
