Ok, experts help me out here. I may have a chance to get a front sway bar for my 77. The catch is it's coming off of a 3/4 ton 4wd. I know the 3/4 ton part is good because it has the larger bar. My question is are the 2wd and 4wd bars the same?

I know the links that connect to the axle are different, and I assume the stands on the frame are taller too. I'm not worried about any of that because I can buy all that new.

I need to be sure that the bar itself is the same. Does anyone know "for sure"?

Why not just buy a complete new bar? I think you can get one from PST for about $150 with all of the bushings and mounts.

the 4WD bar is completely different. It mounts to the u-bolts on the front leaf springs. The bar mounts horizontally on a square pad instead of using links. You might look into getting a 2WD aftermarket bar.

It'd be best to get a 2wd 1 ton bar since they mount the same just have bigger diameter "D" mounts.

Because for a total of $50 I got a 1 1/4" sway bar with poly bushings from the junkyard and PST :p

The 2WD bar is different than the 4WD bar. You need to find a 3/4 or 1 ton 2WD one in a bone yard or on Ebay. My C-10 had the smaller dia. swaybar and I upgraded to a 1 1/4" one from a 1 ton which I bought on Ebay for $25 and I bought some Energy Suspension poly bushings/brackets and stainless steel hex bolts. Works great!

My 76 2wd 3/4 has a front sway bar, I can take a couple of jacks and axle stands with me next time I go and get it for you, not too sure when I would be headed out though...

I recently put a 1" 1/8 sway bar on the front of my 78. I got mine out of a u- pull-it wrecking yard. Some new bushings, cleaning, and paint and its good to go. The upper brackets are a little hard to find new if yours didnt come equiped from the factory. Mine didnt but the holes where pre-drilled .. I bought the upper brackets new from chevrolet.

Russell I really appreciate your offer, but I think no matter how we shipped it it wouldn't be cheap. Texas and Canada aren't very close anymore

I guess I need to get my butt to a local salvage yard and snag one. Problem is I don't even know where one is in my area. Hmmm? Wheres that phone book....
