Re: Gmc 270 engine
Look where the exhaust manifold meets the intake. They're bolted together right under the carb. usually see the valve or the remains of it there. mirrors are good for checking the bottom.
I've been doing carbs, all kinds of carbs since '71 or so including lots of those Rochesters. I usually get them fixed OK. |

Re: Gmc 270 engine
I won't say that it can't fit it, but it isn't one of the model numbers that I listed above so it would probably take some adapting. Where and how the throttle and choke actuated are likely different than what you need. Best to find the right one I think.

Re: Gmc 270 engine
And in better condition. Better to rebuild the sort of running one you have than starting from scratch....

Re: Gmc 270 engine
Go back to post 11 and pull the top off the carb to check the float level and needle seat for crud. Six screws and 15 minutes time and you will know if that fixes it. Here is a good article that outlines the probably fix to your leaking. It also tells how to adjust the float. Just because you had it rebuilt does not mean the guy did it right. I seem to remember you having fuel line, fuel pump and gas tank issues, all of which may have loosened up crud that has found its way into the carb after the rebuild.

Re: Gmc 270 engine
I am going with a Zenith carb, I've been told numerous of times that the Rochester wasn't made for my engine

Re: Gmc 270 engine
I'm just going to ignore your post Lynx
anyway, Orrie. I am not mechanically inclined to take apart a carb and check to clean something. Appreciate the advice however, when I do get taught on how to mess with the inside of a carburetor. I have a diagram of the Rochester (B). I spoke with a man up in Kannapolis who is one the workers there, they have a Zenith carb that is the exact model that fits the 270, however its apparently $850 bucks....but they were supposed to check in and find out the updated price, due to the previous price being set in 2007. I find the price to be quite ridiculous and hope that the price is not what I think it is. I have messed with the timing, while its still off a little. I and some other people have came to a conclusion that the carb is practically junk now, and its also not made for the 270, and is made for the 235's

Re: Gmc 270 engine
Here is the 235 linkage, I could not find online if 270 is the same, similar or different. Pushing on the foot pedal turns the bellcrank CCW moving the throttle linkage up to open the throttle. Return spring runs from oil pan bracket to bellcrank.
