Cameron, your rear suspension looking real good ! Rear half shafts need to be parallel to the ground for the best ride quality, say you have six inches of total rear travel 3in up & 3in down with the half shaft u-joints. Seem like when you need the welder the most, it runs out of wire or gas on the weekend...Jim

Looks good Samples. Seems wire or gas does like to run out on the week end.

AD, I'm not gonna use air ride.. I looked into some air over shock kits and they were a little much for me! I'm just gonna use coilovers front and rear!

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) first timer..
Carb flange should be set level, this usually results in the trans being about 3* down.

If I set carb flange level I'm pretty sure I'd have to run a tunnel through the whole cab.. |

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) first timer..
Can you get the engine lower? Get your engine set where it needs to be. Then match the pinion angle the same as the crankshaft.

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) first timer..
Hmmm, such a simple and obvious rule of thumb that I'd never thought of before. I knew the driveshaft angle was usually 3 degrees downward to the rear but ever knew where that came from. Live and learn!

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) first timer..
Well, I'm in the same boat now. Trying to figure out whether to tilt the rear end carrier or not. My engine ended up higher than the rear end. Your step notch is higher than mine. If I lower the engine more, the transmission pan will drag when aired out. If I raise the engine to be able to air it out, I will have to modify the floor pan, and tilt the rear end carrier even more to get the u-joints in spec. Keep us posted!

Re: 1955 (2nd gen) first timer..
Watch this video... it explains everything you need to know about angle of the dangle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ-m9ov3wYM Understand why 'angle is required'.... for the driveline u-joint cap needle bearings to operate properly they need only a minium of a 1* angle to keep them rotating. If there is no angle the needle bearings inside the caps do not turn and they will deform quicker. When you lower vehicles there are many mods that have to take place to make everything work right as you are finding out.
