What year is this cab!?
Can someonr determine from the vin # what year this cab is. I was told it was a '68 but it has a parking brake pedal and the plastic vents in the door jamb..

Yup, a 68. Either the VIN tag was swapped, or some one really liked the 71/72 style cab.

The vin is a 68 1/2 Ton 6 cyl mfg. in Fint Michigan If it is a 71 it will have a embossed (raised) area where the rear view mirror mounts. If not then it is probably a 72 from what you have stated.

Were the door jamb vents only in the 71/72?

There is a vin # on the top of the frame rail by the steering box, post those #'s, it may be a 68 frame and title with a 71-72 cab put on by a previous owner.

dtlilly... you are exactly right! The frame numbers match the vin tag. So I have a '68 frame and VIN tag with a '72 cab. Is this a common practice? I have another '68 cab frame and good title. The cab is no good. I have this cab with the once switched Vin tag and another '72 cab with no title. I am trying to figure which cab to use and how to go about title work and registration. Anyone with a similar experience with some advice would be appreciated.

pick a vin plate with matching title, and don't let anyone see you installing it onto what ever cap you choose.
Is it against the law...probably (depends on state) would it be a huge PITA to go through the red tape...yes. Does the DMV really care about a 30+ year old truck...nope. Close the garage door and don't tell anyone what you did. |
