Center support bearing removal

Pulled the front shaft with attached spline and bearing out from the rear shaft. Removed the D clamp and rubber. I am left with a bell on each side of the bearing. Tried tapping with a hammer and large screwdriver but nothing moves. Is there a trick to getting these bearings off? Thanks.

I guess I will try to rig up a puller. A press is on my wish list.

Re: Center support bearing removal

Looked on kijiji and bought what was advertised as a 20 ton press but it ended up being a 30 ton. Really didn't want it so big but price was right. Now I will have to get the truck going again so I don't have to dismantle the thing to move it.

So the replacement bearing they sold me is an SKF HB88107-A. It has a press on collar about 3/16" in height. I am thinking it probably goes on after the bearing but not really sure. Anybody ran across this before? Thanks.

Re: Center support bearing removal

I had to torch off the old bearing, it wouldn't pop in the press. Used the press for the new one.

Re: Center support bearing removal

I was afraid to use a torch but it would have been a lot easier.

I laid the shaft on a piece of carpet on the grass. A few light sledge hammer whacks on a piece of 1 1/2" iron pipe sitting against the inner race of the bearing did the trick.
