DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

A guy can literally look hours and hours for parts on the sellers threads only to read what he clicked on in hopes of buying something has been sold... Why on Earth would these threads not be deleted??
Very frustrating....

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

It's up to the OP to delete them. Staff does not have the time to go through each one and determine what has or has not been sold.

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

Click the edit button then choose delete.

The ad should remain up long enough to ensure the buyer has received the part.

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

I wish me had the option of editing the TITLE of our listings.
I can't tell you how many times I have misspelled something in the title or as soon as I posted, I thought of a better way to word my request.
But, with this option, the OP could edit the title with a -SOLD at the end of the listing and stop hours of searching, plus not lose the content within the thread, such as... I research what stuff has sold for and for value of an item to see if I got screwed at the last swap meet.
Or maybe the staff has the option of adding a feature of allowing the OP to check a box to change the color or some other feature of the title or thread for it to show up differently to indicate it as sold, but still keep the thread content.

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

PM a staff member or use "report post" on your ad and request a title change. If I see a mis-spelled word in a title I usually edit it myself

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

Often a for sale thread will have good refernce pictures or information posted to it.

To me just editing the first line of the inital posting to include SOLD would reduce the issue greatly but still have as a reference archive. Deleted ads can't help anyone much like those red Xs from off-site hosted picture threads gone bad.

I use a lot of threads to gauge what parts are currently selling for.

Actually, I just tried and...
you can't delete them. Or at least, I couldn't.

If you click on edit, it only allows you to delete the (first) message. I would assume that the rest of the thread stays put.

If you click on thread tools, it does provide you with an option to delete thread but when you try, it tells me that I don't have sufficient privilege on my account.

So, I just left them sit.

I have to agree with this.
Now if people would look at the dates on them and determine if a 10 year old thread may still have tow hooks for $200.........

Another person in favor of leaving them. I use them frequently to either make sure I am pricing something right or to make sure I am paying the right price for something.

Thats all good and all, but I like the idea of maybe changing the color of the title to show the parts have been sold or a check box. I dont mind them being there... but its frustrating when looking for parts and clicking into a thread and then finding out the part is gone is all. Some of the threads get really buried and parts are still there....

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

We need to leave the threads up as a reference. Once an item is sold the thread becomes inactive and it drifts back in the pages anyway. Pretty much, if a part is still available it will still be listed in the first pages withing the past week. Just observe the dates when searching. The fact is, there will only ever be but so many results for the part you want anyway

Re: DELETE the Sold Selling posts...

I also agree in NOT deleting the SOLD items. Some good reference material when looking for parts value, both when wanting to buy and when wanting to sell. I've posted a few items in the WIW section and have noticed myself and many others sometimes get lots of looks but no responses. In that case I just do a SWAG ie: Scientifice Wild*** Guesss . If the item is priced to high at that point it won't sell and goes to the bottom of the page and on into obscurity limbo.

Also it is a problem when pictures are posted using an outside the board picture host. Too many times all one sees is a big red X when the host or the poster deletes the picture. Often happens and leaves one wondering what the picture showed. That is also some good reference material for searching out parts.

As mentioned, before getting too excited about possible parts purchase, be sure and check the date of the posting. Some items for sale postings have been more than 7-8 years old and people are asking if the item is still availible.

One last comment, when asking about a possible purchase from a seller, please include your zip code info for shipping costs quote. It makes it SO much quicker for all concerned if not having to PM back and forth for zip code information.

The ability for the OP to add a little icon in front of the title would be too much work ya think? Or at least be able to Edit the title to say the parts have been sold?

That's what I do. In bold print and capital letters with an exclamation point. I also post it in the final reply. All this really comes down to is wanting to save the time of one click to see if item has sold or not. You want to see it in the title when as it is now you have to click the title to see it as soon as the thread opens, as long as all sellers are thoughtful enough to properly mark their threads. I never saw such effort or time as wasted. It's not like we're shopping car insurance here. Looking for parts is part of the process we are here to enjoy.

It is kind of comical that the person wanting the admins to do more work,, for free I might add, is the only one in this thread who is not a paid subscriber.. But what the hell, that is just how I see it.

What are you saying? I need to pay to have some sort of input? You think I dont buy parts from the ones who do pay? You think I dont use the vendors on this site? Are you telling me that because I dont choose to not pay to sell parts I can just as easily sell on ebay and craigs list that my opinion dont matter? Ill keep you in mind of the vendors to not buy from then... but thank for the smart ass response.
