Help identify motor

When I Bought my 68 I was told it had a 350 in it. I pulled the engine yesterday and started looking at the numbers on the block and was wondering if you guys could help to identify it. Casting #3970010 Date code J0377 and ID number on the front pad is MK21289. From what I can find the 3970010 could be a 350 or 327. Also I found something that says the MK on the ID number is a 327 built in 1967. The block was made in Mexico if that helps. If anyone could help I would very much appreciate it.

Re: Help identify motor

Hi Droy014, Welcome to the board. Your block is a 1977, 350, crate manufactured in Mexico
J0377
J=October
03= 3rd day
77=1977
MK21289
MK=I don't have a decode for crates, but that is a Mexico prefix
21289=part number
3970010=in 1977 that's a 350
Hope that helps

Re: Help identify motor

Bruceman is right on. To add a little disappointment perhaps. There is no way to figure out the rated hp/tq for a crate. The best you can do is remove the cam and inspect it for a part number. However, the cam is the only component separating a 260 or 290hp 350, and once it's out its too easy to swap in anything you want.
